Custom fields for metadata and accessibility from different devices. Usually there is only hardcoded metadata, tags or categories and one or more systems for collections. And moving data between different software is also quite limited of course.

At the moment I manage everything with calibre on desktop, and use calibre-sync(?) on mobile which has full support for calibres metadata, including the custom fields. But it has no builtin reader and a very unoptimized interface. So the whole handling is very cumbersome, I have to first filter for what I seek, then download it, then change to the reader-app, and maybe organize the file there too, and afterwards I have to delete the local file and manage stuff on desktop like read-state, rating, etc.

If there would be just anything actually good. But for some reason they all have just very basic organisation-levels, and barely any support for handling custom data from calibre.

For some reason, streaming ebooks seems to be also not existing. One can either download the whole book, or use some lousy in-browser-reader. So strange how the ebook-world has no decent software for selfhosting.

Notable part here: that's not even the highest amount in Germany. There are many cities with similar or higher numbers. But to be fair, depending on the region, there are likely many people from neighbouring countries which will have less problems with integration because of their shared cultural background. Berlin is for historical and political reasons a big melting pot of different cultures. It's not the only one, but a bit different because of it's size.

It's actually 300k, but 200k also returned. The "funny" part is, there is even a long-running TV-show (20th season this year) about people leaving the country, not sure if other countries have something similar. But realistically, expats seems like a common phenomenon in rich countries. Some people just seek the adventure.

Of course it's also all just speculation without any real laws written yet, but the direction is there.

But if you need threading so much, you could also just move your send mails with the rest of the mails, there is a setting with the server-confg, which defines what is to be done with send mails, which by default saves a copy in the Sent-folder. You could also check out filters and labels.

And looking at the roadmap of thunderbird, there is some plan about a global database, which reads as if this might allow a Gmail-style frontend somewhere in the future. So maybe next year threading might a more solved problem..

But we've also learned that we don't need to change the body itself, when we can just enhance the tools we use. Smartphones are already seen as some sort of half-step towards humans becoming cyborgs. Similar have we now Exoskeletons, which are probably more practical than replacing a full limb.

The overall concepts and elements are still around in some way, but the specific combination and language that makes cyberpunk are gone. At the end I would say they were a result of their time, and time has changed, so not it's just nostalgia and retro.

I did not say upvotes alone matter, but they should be the final say after all other mechanisms.

I guess the notable point here is "most" and "probably". The exception seems to be always news which are so important or dramatic that they are still not removed, and leaving the final decision to the upvotes. Which is why there are also regularly political and sometime seven sports entries (once or twice a year).

Despite being called hacker news, reality is not binary and rules should not be handled like that.

I'm curious now when this was announced. Yesterday, out of nowhere, TikTok showed me a video about someone praising "Total Eclipse of the Heart", despite not having this bubble in my profile. Kinda spooky to see the news now.
