Throwing another answer in for Instapaper. It’s not as new and flashy as something like Readwise or Matter, but also doesn’t try to do too much.

Killer features of Instapaper for me include the kindle digest and IFTTT integration (which I use to mirror my archived articles to Raindrop.io)

I read the book. It’s something that comes up & happens multiple times, and the potential meetings being described are with various global heads of state.

While her boss continues to sexually harass her? Doesn’t sound like a mistake to me. There’s more to life than money, as the author makes quite clear throughout the book, IMO.

I tried WriteFreely (and some of their other stuff) a year or so ago, but found it to be a little too limited for what I was trying to achieve with my personal sites (as a layman/non-web-dev). Ended up using https://Blot.im/ very happily, with my photosite being the personal example I've put the most time into: https://ristrettoshots.com/

Edit pages mostly in regular markdown (+ a few simple Blot-specific tags), drop some images into a Dropbox folder, done. Site built. :)

I have a Boox tablet from a few years ago that I'm still using sporadically, and can't quite justify replacing yet, but if I was in the market this would be very, very appealing. Congrats to the team on the launch! :)

You can specify URLs for specific posts/pages via tags in the post/page file & then link to those URLs directly on other pages.

I recently migrated my own static Hugo blog onto Blot, and I just about couldn’t be happier with it.

I’m not versed in web development, but Blot’s developer (David) seems to have a great goal in mind & similar enough priorities to what I wanted that it was a great fit. I finally got to set up the photography site I’d been planning, too.

It’s http://ristrettoshots.com/ if anyone was curious what one take on a Blot photo site would look like.

I guess my point is that I think even Apple likely has different policies or talking points around this now as opposed to a decade ago. Probably some more and some less troublesome than what's shown here.

I've seen a few folks here doubting that Google would actually follow through with this (which I think is a valid concern with their track record), but I'm more curious about if the hardware would hold up to 10 years of updates.

Granted, not all current Chromebooks are as low-specced as they used to be, but with the way the modern web has been gobbling up system resources the last few years I can't imagine a Chromebook actually being usable through an entire decade of bloat (whether it's technically supported via updates or not).
