Yes chemical weapons has been destroyed and it's a good thing, but all other efficient and practical weapons weren't successfully banned.
Even EU countries that signed agreements against anti-infantry mines exiting them because how efficient they are at slowing down invasion.

Chemical weapons are not used not because some agreements - they just messy and only good for killing civilians. Also contaminate area and might also kill your own personnel.
If you look at all other banned weapons they are all used against Ukraine by Russia and nobody gives a damn.

Linkedin is just glorified contact list. People lose their email addresses, change emails with a job, lose phone numbers, move countries, stop using social networks, but usually keep using same Linkedin profile over decades.
Also in many social situations such as expos, meetups and such asking for a personal whatsapp or phone number can be a cringeworthy especially if you actually want to followup with some business proposal or solicit your services / asking for referal / etc.
At the same time 99.9% of people will be okay to connect on Linkedin and you will have that +2% trust boost that can be sufficient to make sure your message wont be ignored.
So Linkedin is really worth it as long as you are not using it as social network.

It is fun.
Also its answering the question of what gonna happen if you wake up tomorrow and datacenters are gone. Or internets are gone.
Some people on our globe live in countries with no internet whatsoever. Of course most of them dont have Macbook with 64GB RAM either, but it's much much easier to get than internet connection or rack of GB200.
SOTA LLMs are efficiently compression of all the knowkedge humanity has built. Having ability to run it at home to extract said knowledge is important no matter the speed.

 > I want to know if there's a reason beyond that why widespread surveillance shouldn't be a thing.

I'm not from US, but you dont have to mistrust specifically your current government in order to not accept mass surveillance.
Mass surveillance like Flock is basically one of systems you need to create low trust authoritarian country.
If you build it, they will come. Except this time it's gonna be authoritarian leaders.

No it doesnt actually work because its possible to do privilege escalaction without tampering with firmware or filesystem or triggering other markera. OS will be practically rooted while passing attestation just fine.
Only things attestation do is security theater and messing up people ability to use software of their choosing.

They dont care about security; only about control.
There are hundreds of millions of outdated Android devices that all Google attestation systems consider secure even though they all running Linux kernel that was never ever updated and can be rooted by anything.
Now try to install your own firmware on them without said outdated kernel... How dare you.
