You are right; last time I tried it I used the cloud console as I needed gemini with the places tool included. However:

"Experimental: The feature is experimental and limited in scope. You are subject to overages for around a 10 minute latency period."

Why in 2026 can't Google do a database lookup in real time? This is so ridiculous.

On top of being the hardest website to navigate, Google console a) doesn't have real time billing (!) b) doesn't allow you to set a budget limit.

Sorry but it's not worth waking up with a 100k$ bill, fix your platform first.

Finnish people are actually quite warm and welcoming. I know that they like to say that they are introverts, but each time I spend time there I find it very easy to engage, and always have people talking to me (even if it is to warn me of something that I did wrong!).

Estonians are proudly and openly antisocial. Saying "Tere" (hi) to a cashier will only get you a stare from her, they openly joke online that they never talked to their neighbors after a decade of living there.

Interestingly, cars are very important in the Estonian society, as they allow to signal one's status in a community without having to engage socially. When I arrived, I bought a car (a Skoda, neither cheap or expensive), which happened to be the same as my neighbors.

Two week after, they came back with a gigantic BMW SUV, and gave me "the (contemptuous) stare" when our paths crossed in the hallway. Of course, I chuckled, which I guess wasn't the expected reaction.

As a result, for most people, Estonia is a pretty depressing society, on top of being a pretty harsh and regressive social system. They are very good at marketing themselves to the world, which is why you will often see people gloating about Estonia on social media. In reality they are far on every aspect from ever being a "Nordic country", which they like to call themselves.

EU parliamentaries don't initiate laws, and, during the "trilogue" with the EC and the Council, they don't hold the pen on the final version.

If any entity is "self-sabotaging", it's the European Commission. But it's not self-sabotage, it's simply yet another bureaucratic measure to assert power and control the population.

This is neither a far-left, far-right or centrist measure. It's a pure technocratic one, where the State and its minions believes optimize for control over the population, and matters like "privacy" or "resilience" don't appear in the cost function.

The solution to the STD epidemic was moralizing teenagers to tell them to put on condoms. I was told personally several times in sex ed, biology classes and on-the fly by teachers and adults that condoms were not an option for casual sex. It worked.

Regarding PEP/PreP, Doxy has been researched and shown effective as PreP as well:

Same here, also it lies often to me or implements something else that what was planned. It feels quite strange to see it say casually "I didn't tell you the full truth on X" when I notice the issues. At the same time, maybe it is more honest?

It is totally a fact, many people and officials in France believe that AC is a major contributor to climate change. The public (and very well funded) ecology body, the ADEME, has been at war with AC for a long time now[1].

You can see the same dolorism in the national media[2]. While using coal-powered AC is indeed polluting and not the only solution, it's not the case in France due to the nuclear and hydro share in the mix.

Fast fashion importers such as Zara already do JIT delivery to the stores and very short series. They can adapt easily because they have the capital, but this will hurt smaller brands that can't.

France had to reduce nuclear maintenance for a long time to pay for the EU rules that forces it to give discounted nuclear electricity to private producers, which led to the situation you mentioned. Besides, french nuclear is important in stabilizing the german grid by adding/removing up to 20% power with a short delay. This leads however to increased wear on the reactors and maintenance needs.

And interestingly, you mentioned gas: in 2022 the EU went through a major energy crisis as Germany was counting on Russian gas to produce electricity. Pumped storage is finite and already maximized in Europe, same as hydro. Batteries are still unproven economically at scale.

One can accept climate change but be sceptic about the solutions pushed by the various lobbies, which led to the downfall of German's industry.

The Chinese are quite open about their efforts regarding intellectual espionage and the desire for control of other countries' supply chains. It's not sinophobia to be cautious about it. It doesn't mean that the US companies are angels either.
