I’m looking forward to it. I never stopped using Google Maps because no alternative was as ubiquitously useful (OSM is better in certain areas, but it’s hard to say when, which eventually resulted in me switching back to GM full time).

My impression from the selfhosted sub is that most people looking to replace spotify are not into albums, and want a lot of popular music not available on BC.

Fwiw, the (mostly) closed source jetbrains IDEs support multiple models with their coding agents, byok, and using different agents like Claude Code via ACP

The thing is, those are human-used words. Overused by AI, but very much not exclusive. Especially the way they were used here felt very different from slop as they made perfect sense.

I have had frequent enough issues with it silently blocking some things with no ui exposure of those blocks. Been a while now, but I think it was stuff like webrtc and other more "arcane" features.

I use FF and uBO (which has always worked better on FF than on the adtech browser), but I'd love uMatrix back. The interface of uBO is a typical mobile friendly simplification. As the article says, uBO can do everything if you are willing to write rules by hand. And missing is that the equivalent in uMatrix was a single click. Simply a huge step back in UX, and while I dropped uM eventually as the lack of maintenance resulted in incompatibilities, I'm now permitting far more connections than before as anything else would require too much work when I want to actually browse the web.

I’d say for art, a lot? There’s a ton of art that a halfway decent painter could do now, the art of it was being the one to do it originally. At least that’s how I, as an absolute philistine in that regard, understand it ;)

It’s rather unlikely that the translation in one direction is great, but lacking in the other, while also being just good enough (compared to before) that my close-to-native English skill misses it, while the old google translate somehow magically made me think it was bad.

Sadly there are no examples here to compare.

Haven’t used google translate in a long time, mostly because of quality issues before LLMs. Deepl was leading for a while, nowadays I’m very happy with Kagi translate.

I often (ish) translate between English and German, two languages I speak very well. The quality of translation is amazing and far better than what old systems did.

Maybe it depends on topics or length, for me it's usually 1-2 paragraphs of a German article to share online.

People also always bring up the "fake XY problem" thing on SO as a sign of toxicity or whatever, but I’ve had many, many results where it was a XY problem, and the actual problem Y was solved, yet I landed there searching for a solution to X :/

We recently had two cases in Germany of farmers giving away hundreds of tons of potatoes, as they'd have been destroyed otherwise. In one case they were paid for, but the store didn't want them anymore, in the other case it was overproduction and not worth transporting at the price they'd fetch.

Opposite for me, I've seen a16z tons of time on HN, and also the domain where sometimes, but the full name would have meant nothing to me.
