I'd like to expand on your comment, while the North/South lines drawn by the US Civil War are a common talking point, the influence of the west coast on how America has ended up as it has is not talked often enough, as an example Hebert Hoover was very influential in US policy as the last (living) American president after the death of FDR and a very connected indiviual who opposed New Deal policies, not mentioning his involvement in Japan and Germany, and that is before getting into the Hoover Institution or the Heritage Foundation

And currently we live in a vastly more unequal world ecomomically than when the Concorde and similar were developed, there is money to throw around

My fears with the situation you are describing is that we end up without a common file format, if everyone has a propietary app and/or file system then that makes transition or collaboration a pain.

We probably won't end there due to how lazy most of us are, but it's certainly something to consider

Wasn't this the case where it needed to be very specifically (and repeatedly) prompted by a team to do this? With many outputs having to be discarded? Obviously the tech has improved, but if it is the case I'm thinking of, then it wasn't able to do what you are suggesting (again, not without heavy user prompting and curation)

How could they implement it? Try testing a bunch of models (closed and open sourced) and then seeing which one gives the best returns for it's cost? And then how do they check if it's being properly used, I have read of people just throwing their token budgets to the fire so that they show high usage for KPIs, while the most obvious cases of "X do this very wasteful thing" will be culled quickly (hopefully), I don't see how non-technical management can see through the thinnest layer of malicious compliance

Malcolm Harris' Palo Alto explained the failures of many dotcom startups and Amazon's later success in the field (in part) to the fact that dotcom era delivery was done by highly trained, highly compensated, unionized in-company workers, meanwhile Amazon prevents unions, contracts (or contracted, I'm not up to date on this) companies for delivery and has exploitative working conditions with high turnover, the economics are very different and are a big contributor to their success
