I never buy meat at Wal-mart. They don't have any local butchers. The story I heard was that one store's meat cutters were attempting to unionize so Wal-mart fired all of it's meat cutters nationwide and consolidated it's meat cutting and now ships cuts of meat to individual stores.
Maybe it's because I live in the Midwest United States but, I like knowing there's a professional handling meat and someone I can speak with if I need a special cut or something that's not available.

"The fake bogeyman lets people avoid talking about the real issues."
Oh good. I'm glad we can avoid addressing who we actually are and can instead continue pretending the world works the way we like. Don't get me wrong. I think the science (there is a hypothesis) is interesting I just think honestly discussing these kind of issues is a much better way of dealing with the real dangers.

Make sure to read up on Robert Anton Wilson, the guy who defined it as such. His books are especially enlightening.
Prometheus Rising and Quantum Psychology are my favorites.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Anton_Wilson

Practicing yoga is the only requirement to be a yogi. Hacking is much the same way. We all share similar goals but our practices are always intensely personal. If you're practiced enough you know that what you consider important and what you consider progress continuously changes. Thus we don't judge someone else or their practice but appreciate the opportunity to practice with them. Without question both Zed Shaw and _why have hacked. I think it's important to appreciate many qualities of both without needing to apply labels to either.
Namaste

Whoa whoa...
The solvency issues of Social Security are primarily due to the Government of my parents "borrowing" money from the system that they paid into it. There are of course the exacerbating burden of of longer life expectancy that they have failed to address as well. I believe it was Al Gore who spoke about the idea of a "lock-box."
All this and generations want to call me entitled? Look you spent the money you were supposed to save. I can appreciate the social programs that result (I'm a bleeding heart) but, don't shit every where and then blame my generation for stepping in it.

I think that the benefits of price (free) and availability (theater comes to you) are only likely to increase movies watched via YouTube. Once a movie does have 165M page views in an opening weekend (and one will), which will be a better measure of movie performance: the box office or Google?

I'll post the same comment here as I did at the article:
Excusing reporting sources (newspaper or otherwise) from taxes isn't the right thing to do. Non-profit organizations are already gearing up and filling the void that for-profit organizations will leave. I look squarely at NPR and PBS. Maybe the print writers should seek to create something as well known and respected as these organizations. They would be tax free and have more respect.
