After how long? I.e. did you get a few good years with it?

New comment by Tempest1981 in "Do dentists know what they're doing?"

Tempest1981 — Thu, 15 Oct 2026 04:14:08 +0000

Reviews are tricky too:

1st dentist says you're fine. 2nd dentist finds 12 cavities.

1st dentist's review says he missed 12 cavities. 1 star. I see this the most.

2nd dentist's review says he's finding false cavities. 1 star.

Or add a "probability of injury or death" attribute for more granularity.

Story from 2017, but the iPhone event: https://www.engadget.com/2017-09-14-apple-explains-face-id-f...

> Face ID ... didn't quite work as he expected. "Your passcode is required to enable Face ID" popped up, eliciting a nervous chuckle out of Craig and forcing him to switch to the spare demo phone

Assuming they don't swap it out every night/week.

Speaking of which, when will it be in the stores to play with?

True, I remember years ago, the presenter was doing a demo and ran into a problem. He quickly transitioned to another identical device nearby, and continued almost seamlessly. Didn't seem like much of an issue. Although that might have been WWDC, which is a different crowd.

New comment by Tempest1981 in "The car industry A/B tested selling a car with and without CarPlay"

Tempest1981 — Sun, 06 Sep 2026 23:26:31 +0000

CarPlay Ultra adds information such as speed, fuel/charge level, climate control, and tire pressure. Hard to imagine legal issues around that.

Although I could imagine the car manufacturers wanting to get revenue from refueling ads.

I grew up believing that capitalism somehow separates business from government, with each operating independently. Same with separation of church and state. Not sure what to think of things now.

In that case, try the "Blue Cube" method, like the old Onizuka Air Force Station near Moffet Field.

I'm surprised they haven't tried painting them "Go Away Green", vs stark off-white monoliths.

I like the "bubbling" dots effect that occurs in an airplane when making a turn. Anyone know the reason?

I guess they're moving in the opposite direction of the turn to force the perception of turning.
