Same experience here, they sent me a copy of my background check with an incorrect graduation date. I don't even know how that would have happened. I have my diploma and transcript but no one asked me about the discrepancy.
Some companies definitely check references. I've had multiple companies contact me as a reference for an applicant and ask for a brief phone call or to write a quick blurb on some website form. Just make sure you ask before listing someone as a reference.

I understand why it failed and I realize that I am not a typical consumer but I loved when JC Penny eliminated sales and just charged a flat price. I don't shop for clothes often, I don't want to wait for sales or figure out which coupon is slightly better, I just want a no hassle transaction.
They also killed their Big and Tall clothing line (The Foundry) last year which was my go-to for plain shirts in tall sizes.

A long time ago I worked at a company that prided itself on unrestricted source code access to promote cross-group cooperation. The check-in procedure relied on an understanding of the code review and ownership policy but wasn't enforced programmatically.
One day I came back from lunch to see that someone had marked an entire Perforce depot for delete. I've never scrambled so fast to try to identify this unknown user. I figured it had to be an intern and ran across the floor looking for him, only to find a poor confused intern surrounded by out of breath developers imploring him to not hit submit. Every 30s someone else ran up to try to get him to not delete the entire depot.
It was the intern's first week on the job and he thought he was just deleting some local files. The event definitely inspired some access lock-downs and automated check-in procedures going forward.
---
I laughed when I saw the email but was also a little pissed because I am a former, not current customer. I hope HBO Max doesn't send out an apology email. That's the equivalent of unsubscribing from an email list only to get an email confirming the unsubscription that I also have to delete.

This happens to me too. I find it incredibly unprofessional and immediately blacklist any recruiter that emails my work address. I purposely don't post it publicly (though it's not hard to guess). They found me through LinkedIn, contact me there and I'll get notified on the site and my personal email address.

2020. Phantom breaking is real and incredibly scary. I've heard reports that it is more likely near overpasses but every time it's happened to me I've been on an empty eight lane highway (thanks COVID traffic) with no overpasses in sight. I find myself rarely using autopilot in traffic because if it phantom breaks, I'm going to get rear-ended.

The touch screen controls are mostly ok. I'm a huge proponent of knobs and switches as well but I've mostly been able to make due.
The two biggest issues with touch screen controls for me are windshield wipers and temperature.
You can turn on the wipers on the left hand stalk which is good for when some truck splashes your windshield and completely blinds you. The automatic wiper sensor is...not great.
I find the temperature controls hard to use without taking my eyes off the road. And the number of times I've accidentally turned on heated seats while trying to change the temperature...why on earth is that button so prominent?

I've owned a Model 3 for over a year. It's ok. I had a rough idea of what I was getting into but the amount of "software" problems I've run into...
Every software update breaks something.
The rear view camera sometimes just blacks out, requiring a soft reboot of the car.
Side cameras will just stop working in the middle of a drive.
The radio sometimes doesn't work. Requires soft reboot.
Speaker volume levels randomly maxing out.
Phantom breaking on empty highway on a perfectly clear day.
Trunk randomly opening in the middle of the night (seriously, multiple times). It's in a garage but wtf
Charger door cycling non-stop with nothing connected. Fix? Soft reboot.
Every time I've had to contact Tesla for anything (buying the car/service issues/wall charger issues) the people have been friendly but unbelievably disorganized.
It's a fun car to drive but there are some serious issues.

If anyone is interested in stamps as more of a casual hobby where you get more joy in seeing a wide variety than a pristine, ordered collection, I highly recommend https://www.postcrossing.com/. It's an international postcard exchange program, most certainly low-tech in this day and age, but I find it immensely satisfying. I buy as many combinations of stamps as I can (the US's international stamp is boring) and love choosing the perfect ones for my postcard's recipient.
List in your profile that you like stamps or even say the type you're interested in. You'll be amazed at some of the ones you'll get from all over the world.

One time I was having some imaging done and they had me sign forms on a tablet. One of the signatures was stating that I had received a physical copy of the forms I was signing. I asked for a physical copy before signing. They said they couldn't do that until I signed. I refused to sign.
Thirty minutes later they figured out how to print it (it took the whole office to work out how). Then I signed.

When I bought my house, I absolutely compared forms. I had my laptop open on the table and went over the documents line by line. Yes, I had read everything before closing but I wanted to ensure everything was correct. I had found two mistakes, one in the mortgage document and one in the title company's math, prior to closing. It pays to review these things.
The handful of other people at the signing were mildly annoyed that I was being so cautious but I didn't care. It's my money. I'm normally a polite and shy person but if I had a question and everyone else was making small talk, I would just start talking.

They returned amazing photos but had some crazy issues. The lens cap didn't pop off on at least one of the cameras for Venera 9-12 (yep, all four). The Venera 14 lens cap popped off but landed under the surface tester arm meaning they could test the lens cap just fine but Venus, not so much.
Imagine sending a probe to another planet, land successfully, and survive the hostile environment (for a little while anyway), only to have the issues with the lens cap. Again, and again, and again, and again.

I know a torch is a flashlight but it amuses me to think of a nurse wielding a flaming torch walking down the hallway, peering into rooms.
It's been awhile since I was in a hospital overnight but checking in on a (presumably) stable patient every 15 minutes is madness. You hear all sorts of crazy things during jury duty--I love it.

They aren't banned in Austin. They left rather than comply with the law. Other companies still operate. You can debate whether or not the law is a good law but they certainly weren't forced to leave.
