You really think Apple's success with the iPhone is because of them manufacturing them in China? That has nothing to do with it, as hardware pricing is not why Windows Phone failed or even why Android is declining.
If anything, Apple won by playing exactly the Windows playbook with software: Embrace, extend, extinguish. I'll add a new one: Restrict. (App Store)

This reminds me of how as times changed, once illegal behaviors are now considered normal because "big tech" embraced it.
Remember Kazaa, BonziBuddy, Gator (The OG adware), etc.? They were demonized for collecting data on all the web traffic you were doing it. They got sued by the FTC and were forced to change their business models and/or close down.
Then Facebook, Google came along and did the same thing in the early 2010's except via cookies and Javascript, but somehow that's ok. Even worse, it's considered a normal business practice.
It amazes me that Honey has been able to become so popular given it's business model has always been more of a hack than an actual product. How did commission programs not sue them for fraud?
Probably because they had good ole Silicon Valley VC money to scare them off.

I've just encountered this happening today, except instead of something complex like coding, it was editing a simple Word document. I gave it about 3 criteria to perform.
Each time, the GPT made trivial mistakes that clearly didn't fit the criteria I asked it to do. Each time I pointed it out and corrected it, it did a bit more of what I wanted it to do.
Point is, it knew what had to be done the entire time and just refused to do it that way for whatever reason.

The music industry is 100% invested in streaming music services, so they don't care if Apple offered high-capacity iPhones cheaply.
Rather, it's Apple who has intentionally been keeping storage capacity low for 2 reasons:
1.) Push users to use iCloud storage, which isn't cheap and purposely doesn't even offer storage tiers that match their phone capacities.
2.) It provides incentive for users to upgrade, especially in an era where keeping an iPhone for 3-5 years has become common and new models offer very little from older ones.

I've also read of exploits which found ways to burn out the Macbook LED light by somehow messing with the power being supplied to the webcam without damaging the camera. Thus afterward, the LED light no longer powers on when in use but the camera still works.

99% chance it will not stay alive for more than 1-2 years. Shazam is the only Apple acquisition I know of that still exists independently, and that's only because it promotes Apple Music on Android.
Most likely will be integrated into Photos or possibly even a new advanced photo editing app for macOS/iOS only.

I'm still waiting for tech to return to the decades of UI/UX design guidelines they all ditched during what I call The (Not-So) Great Flattening.
Actionable items were indicated by a button, highlight, or underline (hyperlink!). A scrollbar showed you when there was more to see. There was consistency across all apps on a platform.
It took me a year of using Apple CarPlay to realize that if you touch the album of a song on the Now Playing part of Apple Music, it will bring you to that album's tracklist. Needless to say I felt very dumb upon discovering this so late, but I didn't feel at fault. Why?
Because when I touch the artist's name - it does nothing. When I touch the song title, it does nothing. When I touch the album art, it does nothing. All despite these having the same design style as the touchable album title. There is no reason to expect that the album title would be any different.
iOS, macOS, and Windows improved a lot, but the design is still horribly lacking in usability problems that were already solved decades ago.

I don't think so. Mac sales have only grown and the whole "you need a Mac for creative work" hasn't been a thing since the 00's.
I think this is more about having the team put advanced photo editing features into the native Photos app, and possibly contributing to AI image processing.

Thank you!! I pay for Office 365 to use desktop Word even though I'm a very basic user of it. I'm well aware that LibreOffice exists and serves most of my needs, and that Word Online and Google Docs could serve my needs. But they're all so horribly inferior to the classic Word interface that I choose to pay for it.
And as we all know, this is why the iPhone has been so successful despite bringing Android-like features years after they were launched.

Part of the movie's point is that Mark wanted to be accepted and "cool" so badly, that he was willing to do whatever it took in his own way to achieve that. Even at the expense of things most others wouldn't give for it, as you mentioned.
To many others, that social status is achievable in different ways -- athletics, personality, appearance, or is even inherited (name, money, etc.). So many, dare I say most, people joining the Finals Clubs don't have to make the kind of sacrifices Mark did because they just naturally fit in. And as a result, membership of those clubs is less of a "big deal" because they didn't have the mountain to climb to get in it.
In Mark's case, he didn't have any of the above to achieve that. But he found out he did have a really unique and "cool" way to socialize -- the social network. The popularity and notoriety from the things he did contributed to his "cool" status on campus. And as we all know, the money and power he got from it cemented his status as a "cool" kid with status.

For software engineering, I have heard stories from all around about the PIP culture due to an 8-12% mandatory URA quota. This results in gaslighting and forced firings to engineers that have a history of performing well.
I personally know a SDM looking to leave now because he said he was basically told to fire one of his reports who was performing fine, or he would be the one fired. I've read stories of "hire to fire" where they hire ICs with the intention of letting them go in 6-12 months so another member of their team doesn't have to.
Culture is self-serving, hunger games style. Management is cut-throat and not empathetic at all.
The NYTimes did a big expose about the toxic culture of working at Amazon, and Bezos' public response was literally along the lines of "we move fast and know that our competitive culture is not for everyone. Our employees are up for the challenge and we are proud of what we accomplish."
In fact, during the hiring boom in 2020-2022 their reputation of SWE ICs was so bad that they were having trouble hiring. Many (myself included) would receive 1-2 emails from different recruiters desperately trying to get us to apply. We all knew to stay away.
The sad part is that many of the toxic managers and even ICs have infiltrated much more of FAANG (and big tech) and with the economic recession especially in tech, Amazon's cut-throat management styles like "performance culture" and PIP quotas have been happening in many other places now.

Ok, so your company ended up raising salaries because you were underpaying. That certainly wouldn't be the case if you found out your salaries were ABOVE average. You'd keep it the same at best, but most likely lower it.
That's the point of these systems. If it's not illegal, then it should be.

Google Voice was also supposed to revolutionize how many parts of cell phone service were to be provided -- signing in to an account instead of SIM cards, multiple phone numbers on one device, visual voicemail, advanced calling features. Android was supposed to be the vehicle of delivery.
In fact, Google Voice on Android was supposed to make calls via data-only (no minutes usage) on a smartphone, but carriers would not allow Google to do that. Hence the strange random-number dialing which utilizes a 3 way call to make a 2 way call by default. Years later, they quietly allowed calls over data but by then GV was already on lifesupport.
