New comment by Thristle in "Former Israeli intelligence agents from Unit 8200 hired by Apple"

Thristle — Thu, 23 Apr 2026 20:20:26 +0000

There are a bunch of units under the Israeli intelligence corps, each doing their own thing. They are not the units with the 007 spies, they are technological units with a very small minority of them in defensive/offensive cybersecurity.

Looking at the profiles in that page it looks like all of them are just programmers/integrators or training other how to use the intelligence systems that are in 8200. not much spy shit.

If it's on linkedin, it's not really secret.

Pippy has stage level approvals. As far as I know, after playing with GHA a lot, the only approval is for the entire PR.

Rebuild the site with wix.com (or other tools) It looks completely static and after the initial setup it is extremely easy to maintain/add to

New comment by Thristle in "'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture"

While rockets are the main weapon (they also like to do stabbings) used in the palestinian-israeli conflict over the last years, the main reason of israeli palestinian hate is their past love of exploding inside busses and restaurants during the first[1] and second intifada[2]

honestly since the iron dome we are kind of "fine" with the occasional rocket (on a personal but also to some extent on a political level)

Its 2 seperate issues:

fluctuation in traffic is handled by auto scaling

Saving money on stateless (or short start times) services is done with spots

New comment by Thristle in "Israel Helped to Spawn Hamas (2009)"

Thristle — Sat, 28 Oct 2023 16:26:05 +0000

The precentage of woman and children in the population is known but that is only relevant if you assume Israel is bombing randomly

Some civilians evict themselves from these areas (north and central gaza mainly)

Some of the bombed areas would have less civilians in them even before the war since they are used by hamas for war (but obviously not 0)

Israel publishes the high ranking Hamas members that are confirmed dead but don't report civ/"grunts"

Not that I am saying we should take the health ministry word as fact (they lied before, Al-Ahli Hospital is just an example) but I don't think their numbers would be orders of magnitude off

It's Meld creator. not a random user. That's why it took longer than expected to fix meld on the latest version of macos

Crosses should appear in other rooms at the same time slot for that person

Great game although i have some feedback

1. Make the score more clear. If i ended up opening 15 clues is it alot? very little? no idea

2. Have an option to play previous days. Most daily games have that option

3. When i put a check for person X in room Y at time Z the crosses should just appear in the other rooms. QoL change to reduce errors

Just close things with CMD+Q... the close button usually doesn't do anything on macos

All the other points - 100% valid. And there are so many more

New comment by Thristle in "Ask HN: When did GitHub replace standard Git commands with the “GitHub CLI?”"

Thristle — Mon, 23 Jan 2023 15:14:35 +0000

while a PR doesn't exist in git it is no more than a branch with extra data attached to it

I've been using GH at work and personally for a while now and i never wanted/needed to use the GH CLI/GUI, the IDE will cover you if you need it to.

If they really removed the easy to use copy button it would be annoying but calling it "extinguish" is definetly some HN warrior attitude. They didn't remove it though, just moved it a bit and OP is being a bit dramatic

New comment by Thristle in "Ask HN: When did GitHub replace standard Git commands with the “GitHub CLI?”"

Thristle — Mon, 23 Jan 2023 15:08:18 +0000

Just checked to see if I just missed it when i use GH

when cloning a repo you get 3 tabs instead of 2 before which are HTTPS,SSH,GH CLI

based on the gh command you wrote you were trying to checkout a branch related to a PR so i tried that on top there is now the `Checkout with github CLI` section but underneath it there is `Checkout with Git` with the HTTPS or SSH options

yes, they changed the layout and put their CLI on top (which came before microsoft btw, unrelated to them) but there is still the original workflow right there

Either OP is on some A/B bucket where they "deleted" git or OP didn't bother to look

New comment by Thristle in "Tell HN: I'm scared of sharing my opinion online"

Thristle — Wed, 04 Jan 2023 15:06:57 +0000

I used to comment on (semi) controversial topics and get into very long and very tedious discussions with strangers

I also did that alot in real life with non strangers

Once I stopped doing that I became much happier. Stick to things that are facts/proven instead of controversial/edgy opinions and you will be much happier

Any of the managed serverless options with a free tier cloudflare has a free tier but it looks very limited compared to AWS/GCP/Azure
