Many Chromebooks have better linux support today than any of Qualcomms laptops from the last few years.

Remember the Snapdragon Insider phone that was almost instantly abandoned? I think it never even got a single major release update.

They took everything that was open about Atheros WiFi and closed-sourced it by putting everything into binary blobs.

Most of the laptops from the last year or two are still not usable. Audio and webcams will almost certainly never be fully supported, or even supported well enough to be usable.

Reading OP's post, I can't help but wonder if they bought a Verizon Pixel. This is a very very well-known gotcha. Verizon locks their bootloaders and you can't bootloader-unlock Verizon Pixels, even after they are carrier-unlocked.

It has some areas where improvement is needed, but the fundamentals work and the user interface design is decent.

I am surprised it's not more popular for Windows users. All of the alternatives I've tried have critical issues which made me dismiss them as unserious.
