Fishing yes, not surfing kayaking (things will eat you :D).
Really just so I can see these neat things. Like these little tiny crabs, maybe thumbnail size at most (Ocypodidae ?). They come out at low tide, have one claw as big as their body, they stand at their hole and wave it at each out other like "hey! check THIS claw out! No, brah, check MINE out!" and, they do this all the way till tide comes in. Or, the rays sitting on their nests and will wait to the last moment to swim away when the tide is going out. At high tide all kinds of bigger things will come in and check the local scene.
Once I have HA linked, I can start a camera record some of this. Yes, it has to be a rube goldberg machine; a digital camera powered by tide, recording kicked of by an over-complicated mechanical device that is also driven by flowing water.

Have you looked at Home Assistant (HA) as your consolidating platform?
I helped set up one in a nursery home with mmWave motion, temp, humidity, switches, electricity flow, etc. If they want to, they can control water faucets, sinks, flushing WC, ceiling fans, heat/cool, plugs and switches.
The beauty is that you just need to find a device with either existing comms "protocol" (e.g., RESTful APIs, MQTT, Zigbee, Z-Wave, BT, BLE, Metter, Wi-Fi) that HA understands, or get one of the many community solutions for others (e.g., LoRaWA, 433MHz, modbus).

A tide flag. As in, a mechanical device that turns a weather-vane-like flag that moves with the ebb and flow. It has to be powered by the tide, and must be able to withstand the elements. And, must look cool.
Then, I will slap an ESP32 & z-wave on it :D secretly to feed my Home Assistant. :D

Best path for Amazon would be to unlock and maybe even "open source" ways to flash with third party firmware publicly (I am aware there are methods to do this already). It would gain good will with the techno crowd (important for hire, dev, sec, etc.), and with general fans & consumers (increased likelihood of switching to newer version).

I am just delighted that SpaceX continues with the "good enough" pace of development here, at least at these phases. Rapid iteration of build, test, learn, and improve rather than wait for perfection.
They are willing to have "negative outcome learning experiences" to gather data quickly. and, of course, data, data, data.
I like it because I know what insane amount of red tape has built up to do anything similar in a Gov (any Gov).

Can we take a step back and review the article and the underlying information? I am very much against any arbitrary and often unnecessary government interference. I also publish.
Lot's of weasel words.
This is not unprecedented. Restrictions tied to foreign collaboration are not new, NIH has done this as far back as 2018 if I recall. Yes, foreign research restrictions have escalated recently.
We have no official statement for either agencies. Collaborating on sensitive or classified material with identified FOCI coauthors is and always have been highly scrutinized activity. Title 32 CFR 117.11 is old. It goes back as far as DoD 5220.22-M in the '90s.
NISPM-33 Office of Science and Technology Policy efforts have been around since 2018 too or so (i am sooo old :/).
This appears to be a continuation of escalation of research-security, rather than a wholly unprecedented break from prior policy.
