Email: richWiki101@gmail.com
Still looking for anything computer, video game, or technology related. I've largely had the misfortune of graduating in 9/2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and being unable to get the professional experience I need. Even training, certifications, apprenticeship schools, or the like can all help me. Open to on-the-job training.

Yeah, you really got projects mixed up. It was Replicant, the attempt at creating a libre Android distro, that got stalled. Stalled due to being unable to work around the nonfree device firmware and binary blobs found in today's smartphone models.
In contrast, Librephone has only been aannounced this week, and it attempts to reverse engineer stuff related to device firmware and binary blobs. It's not the same as creating another Android distro, and any usable results won't be tied to Android, so they for example can be used to give better support for mobile non-Android Linux efforts.

Finally! It took the FSF long enough to catch up with the overwhelming usage of mobile devices, but it's better late than never.
I like that this project is trying to tackle something much more challenging that can't be done with just software: reverse engineering device firmware and binary blobs, the pieces of software that actually make hardware components interface with an OS. Understanding how this stuff functions is key to being able to write replacement software, so we may have less non-free software to deal with. I don't have any experience in trying to reverse engineer software, so the best I can do for now is cheer on from outside, unless I want to try my hands at this stuff later.
I also like that this project is not intending to produce an Android-based distro, but focusing more on reverse engineering. Although I read that the results are targeted at helping developers of Android-compatible OSes, the results can hopefully be used by non-Android [GNU/]Linux distros and perhaps other *nix stuff, like the BSD distros. The FSF (by way of developer Rob Savoye) recognizing that a project like this is not going to be quick, easy, or cheap, and is a long term effort is good, as that likely means this project isn't going to be easily abandoned just because of not being able to produce quick results.
I hope that this whole effort can eventually let us break free of the Apple-Google mobile device duopoly, as it sure is getting tiring for me to stick with one of these two companies for my mobile computing needs.

It does use the same engine from Firefox, although not always the latest version. This project strives to backport security updates from newer Firefox versions whenever they can, sometimes being able to upgrade the base Firefox version, while keeping the legacy XUL based add-on support. This is actually one thing I like wtih Seamonkey, alongside its HTML editor (that which could see better support for CSS and Javascript/ECMAScript stuff) and GUI based image blocking.

It's apparently not the end for this project. This basically made it unavailable on Gitlab, but the source code itself didn't disappear. They already have their own Git repository (running on Forgejo) at: https://git.suyu.dev/suyu/suyu
Even now, it's still seeing activity, and even has their actions and wiki migrated over.
I should've mentioned it earlier, but I already switched to Linux distros like Ubuntu since about 2011, so I'm personally not affected by these end of support dates as much. My concern is more about other people, the kind of stuff I can't really influence myself.
Of course I know that computers don't stop working after just because Windows 10 went out of support. It's more of, for example, a severe vulnerability is discovered that has been fixed in later Windows versions but not 10 that may cause some people to panic. Maybe I'm being paranoid here, but I did raise some valid points, some of which coincidentally play into profit motives such as by encouraging the purchase of new hardware.

> ReactOS is original Open Source code, developed outside of Redmond.
Plus code from Wine, the same project that is used for running Windows programs on Linux distros and macOS, and the basis for Valve's Proton tuned for running Windows only games on these operating systems.
We can say that ReactOS even benefits from some Proton development, although indirectly.

It's good to see a report like this. I hope that ReactOS can reach production ready status, even if it's just the basics, before the end of support for Windows 10 in October 2025 (or later if this gets postponed). Once Windows 10 goes out of support, I fear that there may be a spike in e-waste due to many older computers not officially supported by Windows 11 primarily due to its CPU requirements, even though the official ISO images don't stop Windows 11 from being installed onto these older systems at all. But then they can miss out on critical stuff like security updates that may or may not be worse than switching to a Linux distro, for example.

I already am to a great extent, preferring FLOSS whenever possible (with an unfortunate exemption for video games, especially many PC and all console games).
My primary issue is now trying to find like people who are also into FLOSS as much as I am, and they're not as common as tech illiterate people are. Maybe someone can advise me on how I can get started (online or local around the Houston, TX area).

I heard of two Nintendo published games for their Nintendo Switch platform that utilize the Unity Engine (not marketed well, but can be found in the 'Intellectual Property Notices' section for each game):
* Jump Rope Challenge (summer 2020, released as a digital only game on the Nintendo eShop originally planned to be limited release, but staying up indefinitely for now)
* Fire Emblem Engage (January 2023, developed by Intelligent Systems, so considered more of a 2nd party game)
One more example that is 3rd party published but Nintendo owns copyright on:
* Cruis'n Blast (September 2021, a port of an arcade game developed by Raw Thrills, who both developed and published this port)
One more example but using the Unreal Engine:
* Yoshi's Crafted World (March 2019, developed by Good Feel)
Despite the examples I listed, almost none of these games are ones developed by one of Nintendo's internal studios (Jump Rope Challenge being the exception, but it was never intended to be one of their big games), but instead are developed by another studio not fully controlled by Nintendo.
For their big games developed by them, they still use their own bespoke, proprietary engines, which is likely a sign that Nintendo doesn't trust outside engines like Godot, Unity, and Unreal well enough to commit to using them for such games. Outside developers making games to be published by Nintendo apparently have more freedom to use their preferred engines, including the mentioned outside ones.

I agree about how excessively long the current copyright laws can be, but there's a few things I wonder about that has to be done before that can realistically happen, along with several other related questions I got. Regardless of what happens in the end, any amount of copyright term reduction, even if that's only like 10 or 20 years, is better than nothing.
* How will the Berne Convention from the early 1900s be dealt with? Since multiple countries signed onto that, how can that be overridden or be repelled so that at least some countries can start to reduce copyright terms? I know there's a few countries that didn't sign onto this convention, but they don't enough power to cause major reforms to occur.
* I wish I could do it all myself, but I don't have enough money to convince most politicians to support such reforms. There's got to be some way I can easily gather like people who support such reforms. It's even harder if this has to happen outside of the United States for any meaningful reform to start. Where could I possibly get started on gathering like people for this purpose?
* I know about fanworks (such as fanart, fanfiction, and fangames) and the like, but unfortunately, such things aren't tolerated when they're mixed with open-source software or anything with similar licensing. How come many of those can stay up while being legally dubious (by way of using characters and/or settings from pre-existing mass media without explicit permission from the original rightsholder(s)), but open-source software doesn't get that same pass, even if only for non-commercial purposes? Even if many rightsholders would ignore such things for not being worth their time to take down, it still doesn't feel totally right if the law was strictly followed.
* If a (non-open source like) work gets delisted or removed from online stores or websites to the point where it can't be legally obtained anywhere (and hence can only be acquired via piracy), would that count as a publisher or author saying that they effectively revoked rights to such a work? Then if that work cannot be legally obtained anymore, would that also mean that that work can never enter the public domain unless it becomes available again in the future?
I ask these questions in order to reduce the likelihood that I end up with a DMCA notice sent against any of my fanworks, that could potentially hurt my chances for getting future jobs. Then that could have a domino effect of making my life very hard if this gets bad enough because of not being able to find a source of income because people got scared of me infringing their copyrights. I may be exaggerating these worries, but that's what could happen if I strictly followed the law.

In my experience since September 2020, I've been without a job despite having graduated from university/college with a bachelor's degree in computer science. It doesn't help that I didn't attend any internships (because of focusing on getting classes done), which affects the connections I know well, and my inability to drive as of this post. The only way I have been getting any relevant experience is through personal open-source software projects, either through making my own, or contributing to existing ones.
Well, this has gotten a little better since I'm working a seasonal job doing shelf stocking (retail job for 90 days since last Monday; 2 days per week, 4 hours per day; 8 hours per week), and is for getting work experience. I got it only with the help of a job recruiting agency. It's not involving computers much, but it's better than nothing.

I saw that the reference card designs for the RX 7900 XT(X) that were shown during the reveal have the following ports:
* 2x DisplayPort 2.1
* 1x HDMI 2.1
* 1x USB-C, likely supporting DisplayPort as said above
Some add-in board (AIB) partner cards may replace this USB-C port with another DisplayPort port.
Now if you have an APU or CPU with iGPU, then it may be possible to enable both discrete and onboard graphics so you can fully utilize them.

A few of the best places to start such work on would be to focus on reducing the length of copyright terms and generally allowing non-commercial usages, redistribution/copying/similar, and modifications/derivatives. Because I think these two issues don't directly touch on the profit-making aspects, they may be easier to deal with rather than a full-on revamp of existing copyright laws or even abolishment of them.
That said, even these two issues aren't going to be easy to change at first, especially with big companies and some pre-existing laws like from the Berne Convention in 1909 (!) that have to be dealt with as well. All things that I definitely cannot change just by myself; at least we need more people onboard with copyright law reforms like what I said before any meaningful change is expected.
