I believe this wasn't added in the initial implementation of the base pipe so some didn't realize it got included later, and still does not let you use constructs like e.g. combining multiple transformations of the input on the rhs. But for most purposes it's certainly sufficient

I was a human tester (I think) for this set of games. I did 25 games in the 90 minutes allotted. IIRC the instructions did mention to minimize action count but the incentives/setup ($5 per game solved) pushed for solve speed over action count. I do recall trying to not just randomly move around while thinking but that was not the primary goal, so I would expect that the baseline for the human solutions have more actions than might otherwise be needed.

Can you help me understand this situation? Almost always what I want to select is downstream of what I am selecting from, I can't write anything in SELECT until i understand the structure/columns available in FROM.

Unfortunately, from the study, most of the subjects had no idea there was anything to do with a court or lawyers by the end of the passages at all.

One example student in the study does not look it up and misinterprets "Michaelmas Term" as a person, presumably because it has "Michael" in it. Knowing it is even a time is half the battle.

I'm not sure what the behaviour is now but certainly the default a while back was that anytime someone in your contacts joined Signal you would get a message. Imo this was a crazy behaviour that immediately told you something about certain people in your contacts in a very visible way (that they were on Signal). I couldn't tell from the settings whether this was now off by default.

It used to be much more expensive to make an H1B petition so this strategy was not viable. Then they made it way cheaper, leading to the mass applications.

In the summer you have both effects - you have more direct sunlight (more vertical angle/less atmosphere attenuation) as well as the longer days. The higher apex of the sun in summer is a sign of the former as well as the latter.

Do you actually think sock puppets will be too expensive? The value of the bot only has to be more than $2 to justify paying it for the bot operator, and if there is monetary incentive to get upvotes/attention seems like it could pencil out (if N bots can generate some multiplier of attention)

I don't know who you're reading that you say "no one ever thinks about economic costs of trying to do so". I feel like people think about these costs all the time - it is the comparison to costs of continuing GHG trends and climate change impacts that is really staggering.

At least personally, the privacy violation is most clear if you are not part of a community that uses encrypted messaging by default (nearly everyone I know who uses SMS/FB messenger). The fact that someone I know has downloaded Signal then reveals that they now care about using encryption, which usually has the very obvious inference that they are involved in activism/have journalistic sources/other more nefarious activity that they care about encrypting. You can usually figure out which it is if you know anything else about that person. I would not know this if Signal didn't push the information to me, since I am not going to constantly search my entire contact list to find this info.
