Valve can rely on their community to be malicious and toxic - for example, the post we're commenting under!

To Ardon's point, my Dell AW3423DWF shipped with an incorrect EOTF for its HDR Peak 1000 mode which was fixed in a firmware update. It's still just a plain monitor though without any "Smart" features though.

... I said something about not sneaking crap in but then I remembered that Dell liked to try and push the Alienware app via Windows Update. I don't have it but I don't remember what I did to block it or if they just stopped pushing it.

The entire state of Oregon has done vote-by-mail for the past ~30 years and it seems to have gone fine for them for decades. Then again, their voting by mail wasn't being challenged by an actively hostile Federal government for much of that time.

So how much annually do you spend on your hobbies, anyways, if you're going to declare getting a new phone every two years "fucking insanely financially irresponsible" :p Glass houses and all that, right?

They stopped making iPods in 2022 :( the last one they did make was the iPod Touch (7th gen), which was basically an iPhone in a slightly different shell without a cellular radio.

As an added point of reference, Turing released in late 2018 and RDNA2 released in late 2020.

I Googled a little to see if the GTX 1660/Ti supported Vulkan Video and found this page from Nvidia[1] that says Pascal or later, so I wonder what the blocker is in this program.

New comment by ZekeSulastin in "Steam Machine: Between 12k and 15k Units Sold per week"

ZekeSulastin — Sat, 18 Jul 2026 14:45:04 +0000

It was still overpriced when it was rumored to be ~$700 with the rest of the market priced commensurately, and I go online right now and buy significantly more powerful prebuilts for less, albeit without the integrated puck (which does nothing without buying the non-included controller anyways), HDMI CEC (probably want to hold off on that for a patch cycle or three if the complaints on r/SteamMachine are any indication), and the size (ok ya got me there).

I never want to see HN complaining about Apple prices ever again now that I see multiple folks calling the Steam Machine a great value.

New comment by ZekeSulastin in "Framework's 10G Ethernet module exposes USB-C's complexity"

ZekeSulastin — Fri, 26 Jun 2026 13:42:09 +0000

Framework’s single greatest marketing triumph is selling a $20 3.5 mm audio jack for a device that doesn’t have one but easily could (Framework 16) and somehow avoiding constant complaints/“so brave”/etc.

Aside from me just now, I guess :p

New comment by ZekeSulastin in "Steam Machine launches today"

ZekeSulastin — Mon, 22 Jun 2026 21:32:45 +0000

You did look at the Steam Machine's specs/benchmarks, right? I'm fairly certain that the build you just made well exceeds what Valve put out.

New comment by ZekeSulastin in "Steam Machine launches today"

ZekeSulastin — Mon, 22 Jun 2026 21:29:05 +0000

> basically same specs

The RTX 5050 8 GB is 10-20% faster and the Intel 225F is significantly more powerful (a bit harder to get percentage ranges there since there aren't many 225 benchmarks).

The Steam Machine has been known to be roughly a Ryzen 5 3600 + RX 7600 M performance wise for a while and the release benchmarks have confirmed it; given Valve's statements that it would likely cost more than consoles before prices went haywire, I don't think the Steam Machine would ever have been priced competitively.

What are you possibly encoding for social media that doesn’t work on iOS?

Also the project in the original link is Mac only (hence the irony), so evangelizing Graphene and Qubes seems a lot out of left field.

New comment by ZekeSulastin in "The quiet renovation at Bitwarden"

ZekeSulastin — Tue, 19 May 2026 03:21:02 +0000

I can't speak for Linux, but it's now part of their iCloud for Windows suite with browser access via extension[1]. Exporting from Bitwarden to Passwords (on an iPhone at least) is (as of this post) a simple Export Vault operation, but non-passwords/passkeys are not supported.

> It doesn’t get the full features but it’s functional as a gamepad at least

So it’s the controller and not Windows then, if partial functionality is okay (which seems fine to me).
