It's not depressing because it's not true. Tesla isn't investing in battery technology. Tesla also isn't developing new models at the same rate as VW, BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai Kia, etc.

> later this year
One can hope that reality intrudes before the bubble gets even more dangerously inflated, but how many years has Tesla had a ridiculous P/E ratio. Even after growth stagnated and market leadership was lost in Asia and Europe. Number still goes up.

Why is it a crisis for populations to decline to levels of the first half of the 20th century? The world worked just fine back then with that number of people.
There are problems that arise from a population that contains a lot of old people, but that's a problem that fixes itself in a few decades, and balance will be restored.
Pick one crisis: no jobs, or no people.

> and punish cops who misuse it
Cops, who commit domestic violence that rate at least twice that of the general public, misuse ALPR's to stalk women.
But I will accept an example of any punishment for any misuse as a sign that such punishment could actually happen.

Bogus research they use for image polish is to be expected from IBM. It's pure comedy the way that Watson missed the AI hype train.
But quantum seems to have infected some more legit players. Whatever became of Majorana chips, for example? That got some high-level attention at Microsoft.

Even without the really complicated things like human rating a rocket that has no provision for an escape system, none of the schedules presented in the past or that are likely to be presented in the future are plausible.
There's no way that the launch cadence is going to accelerate to where they can refuel a Starship in orbit in a reasonable amount of time.
Three years ago I looked at all the dependencies in the starship project and concluded that the schedule is pure bullshit. It's worse: they never really made a proper schedule because it would've scared them. They're announcing stretch goals and smoking hopium.
That behavior happens all the time in projects. But not at the scale of starship.

It could have something to do with the really bad evil and stupid ideas that people like Peter Thiel propagate with the immense wealth they've accumulated. If the Venn diagram of billionaire nerds and fascists were less of a circle you might have a point.
