When I got my first job in 1986, the company had a tool that allowed non engineers to write code. Of course it didn't work. They could write code, but it ended up as a buggy, unreliable, unmaintainable mess. It turned out it was a good sales tool, get our technology into the company, then we would get paid to write the programs.

Then the were the the MS Access and Excel amateur efforts. I worked at a company that for years had a very profitable business replacing in house MS Access spaghetti with our well designed application.

Aaaand..... here we go.... deja vu all over again....

Maybe programmers at companies using Perl get together and raise the issue with management? It is a bargain. Imagine the cost of having to rewrite all that Perl.

Yep, plus learn SQL and you can use it everywhere.

Every language has it's own (multiple) language specific ORMs.

I think the problem starts when you have no real life community. You are prey to the algorithms with nothing to balance them out.

You may be ok, but I know a few people who have been possessed by the algorithms and influencers. They have one thing in common, they live in isolation with no community.

Sorry. Not true. You have Black Swan (Taleb) and Drift into Failure (Dekker) among many other books. These ideas are very well known to anyone who makes the effort.

It's not a generation, it's a type of person and a cultural attitude. The majority of older people own nothing and had no say in the running of the world.
