Did you understand where the 2^64 came from in their explanation btw? I would have thought it would be (64^10)*16 according to their description of the string.

Edit: Oh because 64^10 * 16 = (2^6)^10 * (2^4)

That's not true. Reactions on comments were implemented long before the acquisition. And people still did +1.

On the other hand, what they didn't have was search locked behind a login screen.

I thought about that as well, many articles are controlled by a little clique of opinionated and partisan moderators. It'd be good if there could be forks of certain pages in which certain viewpoints are being suppressed.

That doesn't seem very useful for the metrics shown in that article. For hard to find bugs sure, for 95th percentile calculations and so on you can just buy a few computers at a retail store and get the same information.

I don't think that data gave them anything more than what testing on a few consumer computers in different price ranges would have.

It does not convey less information, it conveys accurate information. At the scale of the x-axis, the viewer can see that it was always at 280 so no information is lost. No information is added by breaking the scale, if you want to convey standard deviations, add a secondary axis.

It's not a good thing because people have no intuitive understanding of ppm, unlike temperature. PPM can only be judged according to another measure (second y-axis) or in comparison to itself, in which case you want the comparison to be accurate. That means making a graph that starts at 0 so the ratio is self-evident by eye, here it presents an 8-fold increase instead of a <2-fold increase.
