Iron lung use was not 24x7 for all patients. Saying so might be considered by some to be extremely disingenuous or even ridiculous.

Iron lung use was not 24/7 for all patients. Saying so might be considered by some to be extremely disingenuous or even ridiculous.

Thanks for your detailed response, but the things I listed were entirely in jest. I don't think the uvula causes sleep apnea and don't believe a pill would be able to obviate breathing while sleeping.

This is what I was talking about. The patient has apnea type b. The prognosis remains Bad at Sleeping, use iron lung type b with no alternatives.

Most people have type a and use iron lung type a, there are some treatments for this type but most people opt for the iron lung.

Sleep apnea is strange.

Good news! We have a diagnosis, sleep apnea. You're bad at sleeping now, the thing everybody has to do all night long every day since birth. The solution is to wear a modern iron lung whenever you want or need to sleep forever. Many times it's because people are overweight but you aren't.

Is that really all there is for treatment? No throat exercises or therapeutic sleeping positions? No diets? No botox injections for your uvula or a daily pill to obviate breathing while sleeping?

I recently made a purchase at a friend's small brick and mortar retailer using a credit card. He texted me a couple days later thanking me for the support.

Turns out the shop has a Square cash register, and for cc transactions Square provides any email addresses associated with that card, provided the customer has "opted in".

Similarly, I purchased an air compressor at Lowes a few months back. Lowes has been emailing my wife about the air compressor pretty regularly, as she used that card (mine, not joint) for some online shopping a few months prior. Good thing it wasn't a surprise for her.

Tough to consider Microsoft's shift a permanent one until it survives a CEO change or two.

For me, real commitment from MS means Office for Linux. Instead we have Windows Subsystem Linux.

Absolutely.

The Regolith website puts the full iso front and center (for some reason), but you can also just add the PPA and install one of the `regolith-desktop-*` packages - mostly config with dependencies on gnome, i3, and picom. It easy to drop back to vanilla ubu/gnome when the project goes stale or you find something that doesn't play nicely with tiling WM like Unity editor.

MS office is head and shoulders above Libre on Linux. I'd happily buy it.

Not sure on the effort required. I checked GH (not a Microsoft company...) but couldn't find the source code.

People and organizations can act within their rights and still be detrimental other people, organizations, and communities.

Microsoft is pro open source when it suits them.

If there were in it for the long haul we would see things like Office for linux. Instead we see WSL.

One or two CEO changes and they'll be back to litigation for patent infringement.

Unlimited texting as the norm is pretty new, carriers have charged for incoming and outgoing MMS since it became a thing. Same with minutes and received calls.

This has been hitting me hard lately. I'm pretty young at the tail end of my 20s, job is finally stable enough not to worry about money, and have really started to realize how few free hours I can find in a week. Work and its on call rotation, obligations to the girlfriend and social circles, maintenance on the house and cars, bills that don't have an auto pay option.

Last month my auto registration sticker didn't show up in the mail after renewing it. A trip to the county clerk, then the sheriff's office to file a report, then back to the clerk to get another sticker took almost two hours. Stopping by the local bank to change my address after the online system locked my account for two incorrect password attempts took 90 minutes. 6 phone calls after a cancelled auto insurance policy made an auto draft the next month. My coworker has a pile of kids, two with medical issues, it seems like his wife has a part time job dealing with medical billing issues.

Most of these rambling examples aren't the fault of the organizing institution (unlike the Equifax leak at hand), but in the end individuals are bound by those institutions' organizational practices in their pursuit of normalcy. I don't know how it could be implemented or enforced, but at a certain point it feels like individuals should be compensated for suffering organizational incompetence or negligence.
