I would posit increased population, shift to cities, fewer close friends, less family relationships, less community, declining interdependency, lower standards of living, and less hope for the future all contribute to depression and so cognitive distortions.

Some people believe almost nothing is under their control.

You should see the anorexic-looking treadmill runners at my gym who have no muscle type IIB. I bet they already have cardiomyopathies / hypertrophies and will regret their extremist, extremely-unwise lifestyles when their joints need to be replaced in 20 years.

Medicare isn't public universal healthcare. The prescription plans, Medicare Advantage plans, and medigap plans are run by for-profit companies. $300-500 per month, and many good companies, like Thrivent, are getting out of healthcare completely.

GATE in California served no material purpose except to spend money and, most likely, inventory civilian human capital (the G part) for future national security recruitment.

At the time, I didn't understand why I was pulled out of class except to discover how quickly I could arrange triangles and be plopped in front of a piano like a just-add-water circus monkey expected to be an instant concert pianist with this one weird trick.

The war on merit is to make it all about victimhood. Forced busing also ruined public schools because more affluent parents pulled their kids put and put them in private schools, and the number of public schools decreased dramatically.
