I personally generally agree, but I actually quite like the very most recently constructed buildings in my area (southwest Paris), which are still clearly modern but more generous with ornamentation and featuring more organic shapes and often incorporating greenery.

I feel similar positive about new buildings in my native Netherlands, which seem to be getting less flat and with smaller, more reasonably sized windows (if you know, you know!)

For my household I built my own cartoonishly big 200×80×4cm oak desk. The oak was €350 at the hardware store and only needed finishing. The height adjustable legs add some extra cost, but the whole was maybe €700 tops and a day of work.

I imagine they are only buying one copy of each book, thus only significantly affecting the supply of books that were already unfathomably rare. That may still be bad, but doesn't really support the "scan every book you can get your hands on before they are gone" narrative.

That doesn't mean I'm against that narrative; I'm a big supporter of shadow libraries and scanning every unscanned book. But connecting to the LLM narrative here seems opportunistic and populistic.

As someone above entry level but with an atypical employment history, it's very rough out there. Went through the whole interview process with a company, was told in both the technical and culture fit interviews that I was "the strongest technical candidate", CEO ended final interview with "I hope to see you soon".

Got the standard rejection template email, on my birthday no less. My fiancé and I keep good spirits and have cut our expenses enough so that our debt is at least not growing, but we are definitely living paycheck-to-paycheck.

For an exhaustive search, if you can explain to me: - how to exhaustively list the cases that need to be checked, and why that method is exhaustive - how to check each case, and why that works and then conclude with "we've had a computer do this exhaustive search, and the result came up as X", for me that satisfies completely understanding the proof.
