The comment that you are replying to is saying that it's not exclusive to Apple and gives a non-Apple example. Your link has zero instances of the string "Apple". What am I missing.
> The law is about platforms that deal in pornography, self harm, etc
So...not exclusive to Apple.

This is some real title gore, and I don't know who is to blame. As it appears:
> Microsoft is employing dark patterns to goad users into paying for storage?
That Microsoft is employing dark patterns is neither surprising nor a question. Can you explain this gross departure from the actual title jpmitchell[1]? Here is the original for reference:
> How Microsoft abuses its users
This is much more interesting and accurate.
1. https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=jpmitchell

The comment that is being responded to describes a behavior that has nothing to do with determinism and follows it up with "Given this, you can't treat it as deterministic" lol.
Someone tried to redefine a well-established term in the middle of an internet forum thread about that term. The word that has been pushed to uselessness here is "pedantry".

> "Deleted" and "dead" are separate columns.
Yes, we know!
> If that was the intention, it would seem like a bad design decision to me. And actually what you assume to be the reasoning, is exactly what should be avoided. Which makes it a bad thing.
That is should be avoided is what makes it a bad thing? I am probably on board with the idea that it is bad design, I just don't know what reasoning you are referring to here. How would you design it?
> This is a limitation not because of having the bool value be represented by an int (or rather "be presented as"), but because of the t y p e , being an integer.
What bool value? As designed, it is an int. I'm sure that I am just missing what you are saying.

By "to do this" do you mean to not use booleans? It's because the value does not represent a binary true or false but rather a means by which the item is deleted or dead. So not only would it not make sense semantically, it would break if a third means were introduced.
