I can't connect to Slack either. It says
Server Error
Sorry! Something went wrong, but we're looking into it.
If the problem continues, please check our Status page for updates.
But the status page says smooth sailing. Can't even contact them via https://my.slack.com/help/requests/new

Thanks for sharing the threads. I always think that downvoting is for discouraging bad arguments from DH0 to DH3 [1] (for discussion quality as you mentioned). Now I realize that even convincing arguments at DH6 can be downvoted as long as one disagrees with it.
[1] http://www.paulgraham.com/disagree.html

I'm surprised if PG did say that. If disagreement should lead to downvote, then unpopular opinions would not see the light of day.
Also, if one's sick of discussing a topic, s/he can simply don't read about or discuss it. Why prevent others from discussing it?

I don't get it: do comments get downvoted on HN whenever there's any mention of or opinion on difference between genders? Disagreement shouldn't lead to downvote.

This is similar to what I did too but the newsfeed is still polluted with lots of "likes" (e.g. liking a page, liking a post) by my close friends which are irrelevant to me 99% of the time. I wish Facebook let me hide "likes" from my friends.

Yes to me it is insane that Google doesn't provide native keyboard shortcuts (at least make it an option) for the search results page. It is available on Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc. Why not Google search??

Google Search's keyboard shortcuts are so bad. I hope they learn from DuckDuckGo's. At least give users the option to navigate the search results with 'j' & 'k' like Gmail.

Just because it lets me use "j" "k" to navigate the search results and "/" to highlight the search text is enough a temptation for me to contemplate dumping Google. I hate how Google forces me to press "Tab" and the up/down arrow keys to navigate.

Thanks for the tip! That's faster than what I do. I still wish they add a dedicated shortcut for it though so that I can do it with one keystroke (like the Ctrl + Shift + "+" in Excel).

The one thing that really annoys me is that they don't have a keyboard shortcut for adding a new row. Now I always have to
1) Shift space to select the current row
2) Press the "right-click" button the keyboard
3) Press the down arrow 4 times to select "Insert 1 above"
4) Press enter
Or else I've to use the mouse, which is equally slow. It's really silly given that how often people insert rows.
