Rails is dead.

Its founder has converted to AI driven Rust.

He has a point. Anything you could build in Rails you can now build in fast reliable type safe memory safe multithreaded Rust in minutes.

DHH will bring his tribe of true believers to where he has gone, where he has set up a new sideshow tent.

I know a surgeon who says it’s the extended enforced rest after surgery that heals the original problem. He says most people aren’t very good at resting properly without being forced by surgery.

I did a lot of benchmarking of Gil free python.

Greenlets were much faster.

Gil free python gets stuck on all sorts of python locks. It’s slow.

I use SDCC for 8051.

I have started to notice that programming with an LLM it seems to make little difference if I get it to write the entire program in assembly language rather than c.

I think it would be tedious to be that wealthy. You’d spend all your time managing the money and associated stresses.

A super comfortable life with enough money to get you to 105 years old that all you need.

Interesting but not earth shattering.

I’m a Mac user but performance is good enough for most stuff and I’m several generations behind. I don’t neee worlds best performance in my desktop.

It would be super interesting if this was a Linux chip, where the performance is really needed for all sorts of back end applications. Even then its multi core is behind.

Disagree.

The free local LLMs are becoming extremely important.

And the more Claude and OpenAI restrict their services, the more people will want cutting edge local LLMs.
