This is some shit, coming with 0 notice at the start of a work week. My exposure to Claude is only via Copilot which has worked very well for my purposes. I didn't have to learn a ton for it to just start working. I guess I'll look into other options now as I really want to continue using Opus, but don't have a need to 4x my spend on Copilot quite yet.

Agree. The issue was never, how can we get our engineers to squirt out more lines of code in a day? It has always been, how can we effectively iterate using customer feedback to deliver the highest quality product. That type of thing needs time to bake.

You could look back throughout human history at the inventions that made labor more efficient and ask the same question. The time-savings could either result in more time to do even more work, or more time to keep projects on pace at a sane and sustainable rate. It's up to us to choose.

Ton of people in the comments here wanting to blame AI for these outages. Either you are very new to the industry or have forgotten how frequently they happen. Github in particular was a repeat offender before the MS acquisition. us-east-1 went down many times before LLMs came about. Why act like this is a new thing?

Exactly. Stop fooling people into thinking there’s a human typing on the other side of the screen. LLMs should be incredibly useful productivity tools, not emotional support.

A very real impact was that modders got hired for their work. So there are less around from that generation that made literally free games for fun.

Yeah I dabbled with the “competitive” play in 1.6 back in the day when it was finding matches on irc but most of my fun came from the communities I played with consistently. Maybe you can find these in some form but it’s not what most people are talking about these days if they say they “play counter strike”. I don’t really like the seriousness of ranked play so I never got back into it.

Now we're saying that the small chance some user ends up on bad-minecraft.com with a login form is actually worse than using "L3tmein!" as a password everywhere? I agree that following the exercise too closely would dissuade many people from careers they would do fine in. Every job has toil.

That being said it has some value but perhaps not much more than just a little critical thinking.

How about the speed of going from a powered off console to playing the actual game? Sleep mode helps with resuming on console, but god forbid you’re on a pc with a game that has anti cheat, or comped menus. You will sit there, sometimes for a full minute waiting. I absolutely cannot stand these games.
