There has been a flock of crows in my parents neighborhood for decades. They command a large area and push out many other birds, especially birds of prey. They are noisy and annoying. When I visit mom with my dog, they swoop at my dog. Honestly feeling like the neighborhood would be better without them.

Exactly this. AI is trained on things humans do. AI is not trained on right vs wrong. AI does things humans do without judgement. AI does not feel bad if you tell it it was cheating.

A solid block does not eat well either. I'm responding to the decline of ice cream products over a long time. Most of what we get now isn't even ice cream. What I make at home is technically frozen custard.

AI is amoral, it has no real concept of right and wrong. AI has been trained on things humans do and it does them without judgement.

I think part of it is new information showing no benefit from alcohol consumption, but possible harm even at low levels of consumption. In 2026, alcohol is a health risk.

Well, I said "Find a rich life outside of work".

In the article's conclusion, "once freed from the false satisfaction of believing we are changing the world with our day jobs, perhaps we will be inspired to fill that hole with something real".

I suppose we agree and are saying something similar.

If you've worked for startups then you've delt with existential threats, perhaps hard times and failures. I read the article as a lot of corporate jobs. When you fail you find out quickly what is important in life. You need some not-work to be important in your life too. AI can only mimic your creativity and your emotions. You are not as replaceable as it may seem. Maybe I'm not convinced that Anthropic and OpenAI are going to replace us all just yet.

We are living in strange times, not only with threats of automation everywhere but with great political upheaval all over the world. One thing is certain, change, things won't always be this way. I'm going to rely on my grit and remember what is important to me and what makes me happy.

I'm not sure that Hobbies are an existential threat. We had hobbies before the Internet too. It is the non-stop rat race that is the problem. Before cellphones and email we went home from work and left work at work, for the most part. Find a rich life outside of work.

I disagree there. If cops watch us at all times then more crimes will be prosecuted, think they'll just sit bored with nothing happening? They will find things, real or not.

The Defense Industrial Base is 10s of thousands of companies. May are small businesses. Many need to obtain CMMC Level 2, which has requirements for FIPS certified encryption. Our systems do not directly connect to Government systems and those STIGs may not apply directly. So, could I use Ubiquiti in some places? Maybe, not to store controlled information in this case. I could probably store previously fips encrypted files there. Would I want to use Ubiquiti cloud services? No.

Looks interesting, but likely lacks FIPS support which makes it an issue for companies that work with the government.
