Moreover, in their private training sessions, their models played cumulatively about 180 years worth of games, so I doubt there were many mechanics left to be mastered.

I don’t think they did. If I remember correctly, the only limitation they have introduced was the available playable character pool.

No image recognition, the bot gathers info about the game from Dota's developer API. Which, to be fair, is a massive advantage, but it, in my opinion, doesn't make the achievement any less.

That's what I said in my comment, that LLM is just not what you want for such a task.

It is impressive, but it is also a display that LLMs are simply not suited for this, there's way too much latency. Obviously, a more specialized neural network would be much better, but would you believe this:
In 2017, OpenAI presented the first version of their program that plays Dota 2, a very complex, fast MOBA with endless mechanics and defeated one of the world champions in a one-on-one match. Next year, they showed the world OpenAI Five, a version of the program, that runs a full five player team of those bots and they managed to defeat a full team of world champions in 2019. They ran an event where the bots would play for 4 days straight and they won 99.4% of 42,729 matches.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenAI_Five

It’s really good that folks over at Astral decided to implement it. It was difficult for me to understand what does this protocol provide that couldn’t be implemented with a new LSP capability, the linked document doesn’t really explain that, but what did become clear to me is that seemingly Microsoft are trying to invent new features for their proprietary LSP server that only works in VS Code so people will have harder times switching to other editors. This way, no matter what Microsoft comes up with, will be matched with very high quality open source tools.

I read this article and the first thing I thought about is “What kind of a mind created FFmpeg?”. And, turns out, an exceptional brilliant mind — it’s the same person who created QEMU and tcc. But, having interacted with FFmpeg CLI, maybe also an overly pedantic and insufferable mind. A mind that is inhumanly brilliant and expects everyone around them to be as smart. Which is fair for FFmpeg — it chose accuracy over convenience. But the interface is so obtuse it’s unreal. It’s the radial opposite of what the article is praising.
His website is also incredibly fitting. You couldn’t possibly come up with a more fitting website for a person like him.
https://bellard.org

First of all, what’s wrong with the author, if you have to read through 14 paragraphs to finally reach the point where they actually write on the topic directly.
Second, I think the article is really silly. If they are concerned that eventually service providers might restrict passkey authentication to authorized passkey providers, what prevents them from disabling password/TOTP authentication? That’s just silly. I’ll use passkeys while they are convenient. If service providers start disallowing my passkey provider, I’ll either switch to password/TOTP if that’s possible or just stop using the service whatsoever. What’s the big deal?

This raises an obvious question. Why Gleam team weren't doing that in the first place? Obviously they didn't have direct Gleam AST -> Erlang source pipeline, they must have had to build some their own custom Erlang AST representation that they then translated into the source code.

Competing with each other would be trying to one-up each other feature-wise, whereas what I have witnessed was things like discussing trade-offs made in different languages and juggling around ideas on if some feature from language A would make sense in language B too.

I haven’t tried C3 myself, but I happened to interact a lot with Christopher Lerno, Ginger Bill and multiple Zig maintainers before. Was great to learn that C3, Odin and Zig weren’t competing with each other but instead learn from each other and discuss various trade-offs they made when designing their languages. Generally was a very pleasant experience to learn from them on how and why they implemented building differently or what itch they were scratching when choosing or refusing to implement certain features.
