It’s fascinating how (mostly western liberal) game developers argue in favor of 99% taxes for general population “for maintaining infrastructure” and yet cannot fathom paying a fee for maintaining actual infrastructure that is necessary for their business to function.

The kind of software needed in a car (minimal or ideally none at all except for DME and CarPlay display) is indeed not something that Germans were able to build on their own in the recent times.

rootless docker's networking (slirp4netns) is still terribly buggy and in edge cases often locks up using 100% CPU until you discover that your laptop is a lapwarmer and kill it

If it was running Windows - no wonder, Windows is horrible at constantly writing … something to disk, and eMMC's are not high endurance devices. The flash itself had nothing to do with Chuwi and was most likely manufactured by either SanDisk or Kingston, it would have failed likewise in ASUS/Lenovo/whoever else made those crap Intel Atom + 4 GB RAM + 64 GB eMMC devices.

not really, the redirect itself is happening at EMV DS level, not by the merchant himself. Merchant has no idea what bank your card belongs to, so he does not know which bank to redirect you to.

1 Gbps is perfectly adequate for things such as Apple TV's, smart home controllers/gateways (heck even 10 Mbps is fine for them), networked printers, UPSes (also would be fine with as low as 10 Mbps), KVMs, etc etc etc

That's a theoretical / marketing number. In real life I am yet to see meet an EV owner who reports >80% of range after 5 years / 100 000 km of mostly-at-home charging. I see those on internet forums, but on internet forums, anyone can write anything, so I do not take those reports too seriously.

From my personal family anecdotes: my mothers' 4 year old Hyundai Ioniq 5 had complete battery failure. Thankfully under warranty. And my fathers' 5 year old Audi e-tron 50 already has <80% range remaining, with very rare fast charging.

No car manufacturer actually sells battery packs for $80-90/kWh or anywhere near that. That's what it costs THEM, not service customers.

First, with range decreasing, number of charge cycles per mile, and therefore rate of wear, will increase.

Second, average age of car on the road is above 10 years in most countries; and those that drive old cars definitely do not have €26,500* spare to swap their EV's battery for a new one.

*That's what Audi charges here for e-tron 50 battery replacement, which are already starting to fail for many owners
