<p>I think the article is trying to address the question from the title.
Definining your own string_view workalike is probably possible, but I'm not sure if it's OK to use it in a public API, for example. Choosing to use const string & may be more suitable.</p>

<p>Those features are important but I think the key things are the actual games and friends. You cannot start with empty catalog and you also cannot start with older games people already own on Steam. You also need friends to be there on day 1 for multiplayer.</p>
