I find that Emacs is actually the first mover on prime technologies. Just look at gptel and org-mode. Nothing else really even comes close. The reason some odd names exist like yank and kill or kill chain is because Emacs was the first and didn't have anything else to use as reference.

The colleges will raise tuition anyways, and they do it at a runaway cost. Might as well throw in something useful and tangible like textbooks that they can bargain wholesale with the publishers. Individually, the students can only beg.

The problem is using the build system. Using Nix flakes could help alleviate a lot of concerns, I wrapped a target meant for debian. After wrapping it with a flake, it worked on NixOS. But since I'm building it declaratively and not imperatively, it could target any distribution, even mac. I've done this with Bitwig, https://github.com/ArikRahman/Nixwig and Jank lang (https://github.com/jank-lang/jank) in this PR: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/523741

How I advise people is that programming is worthwhile but the technology sector is oversaturated. But technology is pervasive and having an understanding and fluency over it is necessary and advantageous. The doctor that researches cancer can use image recognition and AI to detect tumors. This wouldn't be possible without staying in touch with the SOTA and knowing how to set up this system.
