I'm working on a tool to convert any OpenAPI JSON spec to an MCP server, so LLMs can interact with it. If anyone's interested in this, email in my bio. I'll also put it on my Github soon, once I polish up the code.

I'm a grad student at the University of Pennsylvania, and my concentration has been on distributed systems. I have experience working full-stack, with prior experience with Java, Ruby on Rails, Py, and Rust. For the frontend I've worked with Angular and React. Interested in SDE roles, especially in large-scale distributed environments or where efficiency is of importance.

Nothing different if I'm being honest, I'm just looking to learn and was having some starting issues so I was looking for guidance on that. Realistically speaking, if I can build out a storage engine and execution planner that isn't terrible, I'll call it a success as I would've learnt what I'm looking for

I was hoping to build a simple relational database as a side project, focussing mainly on learning how the internals and the algorithms used work, as I never plan to make this a published product of any sort.

So far I have the CMU Advanced DB course (https://15721.courses.cs.cmu.edu/spring2024/) and the Database Internals book.

While I'm learning a lot about how databases work, I have no clue how to start writing my own, so I was wondering if there were any resources for building a relational database, I've only found some for KV Stores. Hopefully something less intimidating to get started than having to read SQLite code.

I wouldn't say web apps are always preferred over a native app. When people are prototyping, I see a lot of people building web apps to get the idea out. However, as you grow, a native app might be favourable if you can have one cause in my experience they perform better, especially in the background. You don't have to worry about what browser they're using and if it supports the things you need, as long as the OS supports it and you can do more stuff in the background like local notifications which web apps can't
