> You know what the best part of being a software engineer is? You can meet and talk to people who think like you. Not necessarily the same interests like sports and TV shows and stuff. But they think about problems the same way you think of them. That’s pretty cool.
That hasn't really been my experience, for every 50 people I meet maybe 1 is here for the craft, the rest want to do 9-5, have a visibility at work, work on impactful projects but actually talk about their problems, their opinions in a deeper way - almost never.

I have fairly regular bouts of attention deficit filled with youtube, games, in-depth research of mostly useless things. These episodes could last a couple of weeks.
After that I typically have a couple of weeks of productive work - working much longer hours that I should, researching useful things, pushing work project forward and over-delivering. For every two inattentive weeks I typically get a one week over attentive time. I work with smart people of challenging things but this hasn't impacted my career - I still get good reviews as my output during productive weeks compensates for the non-productive weeks. This isn't a question on how to survive my 9-5 but how to achieve top performance.
I've been diagnosed with adhd and would like to try alternatives to drugs.

Except there really isn’t a better product to back up these issues. There were some important improvements made to the gameplay, traffic system, certain things were reworked, nicer graphics etc. It feels like an iteration and not a ground-breaking game rhat would justify the performance issues we’re seeing.

No problem, honestly I think for the price it's really hard to beat considering that you get unlimited (subject to fair use I'm guessing) traffic and backups included in the price. Also, supposedly v25 of NextCloud does offer big improvements (including for Photos) - Hetzner are yet to implement this.

I don't find categorizing something as "alt-right conspiracy stuff" is a serious rebuttal. Since you've complained about the fresh accounts perhaps you should also consider reading through the comments guidelines yourself (your comment is easily violating the top 6): https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

Couple of issues:
1) It seems that some movies are placed first in the Photos screen, no correct thumbnails are generated for these. I'm unable to play the vide of these movies (.mov files). This means that when opening the Photos app I'm met with a wall of thumbnail placeholders.
2) It seems that for the photos the thumbnails aren't being pre-generated. There is a wait time until the thumbnails are generated. https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/latest/admin_manual/config...
3) Random error loading of the photos - some photos just don't open and display the placeholder thumbnail.
4) Linked to 1) - some videos appear between photos so I'm getting a mix of photos thumbnails and placeholder thumbnails.
5) As I scroll down the thumbnails are generated so there is a noticeable lag between scrolling and photos appearing. iCloud can generate thumbnails almost as quickly as I'm scrolling so the difference is noticeable.
6) Lack of any AI integrated into the product (face matching etc.)

Hetzner offers a managed product -I'm still on version 24.0.5. The users aren't given the possibility to upgrade or configure the product. For example, I'm not able to turn on the option to create the photo thumbnails.

I pay 4eur for 1tb managed NextCloud from Hetzner - it's a good service overall but it's unusable for photos. Apart from iCloud at 10eur per month are there any alternatives with a good photos (viewing, sharing, tagging, ai etc) integration?

> This persons visa is dependent on their employment so now they get to go into a city they don't know and try desperately to find employment with an employer who is interested in sponsoring someone from abroad (which is a small fraction of the total employers).
Alternatively they can just return to India? I'd be surprised if they didn't receive reallocation package (16k USD according to teamblind?). I don't expect any employer to go above and beyond their contractual obligations.
There is also certain irony here in Meta employees expecting ethical behavior from Meta whilst happily creating and maintaining unethical outcomes for the customers.

Success: getting through the probation period, not getting on PIP, getting recognition for work done, setting myself up for promotion. I’ve read a couple of accounts of people getting sacked on Team Blind due to not speaking up in meetings and various other reasons which I’m guessing could be avoided.

Are there any practical, 'Cracking the Coding Interview' esque books for succeeding in the tech company (promotions, personal branding, respect etc) once hired? Ideally something that touches on office politics, what to focus on, how to succeed in performance reviews, communications.
