China is the factory of the world. They don't need software to win. Rather they prefer software is free and they can win in hardware. So if AI inference is free, they can put it in as many hardware components as possible and sell them in the market - think toys, cars, tools with chips manufactured in china optimized for the use case. In long term you tend to commoditize hardware. We have thousands of device types of cheap x86, and with linux/bsd software on it coming from china. Why do we think GPUs will be different.

macOS has started to add some unplanned APIs all in the name of security. Full disk access - no api to get the permission. No way to do this in XCode permanently for development. Just keep dragging builds on each clean build folder.

Just like we did HTML in JS via JSX or lit html, I wonder if we should have better SQL in JS that way.

The entire argument from the utilities is flawed. The solar customers are providing electricity in the middle of the city. So they are doing distribution in the sense that there are almost no transmission losses going to the city from generation.

The generation credits are not tou based and therefore they gutted their duck curve argument. And they already had the tou lever if they wanted to control the power curve. Increase the price for evening. Why punish solar customers who actually would have helped by generating power in evening. Sunset is at 8 PM.

Shouldn’t regular customers install battery to help with the curve? They should decouple solar and battery.

Took forever. I opened the github issue more than 5 years back. This implementation is solid though - full backwards compatibility with checkbox, stying support.

Considering the constraints, I think very well done safari. Please get the second implementor on board.

It just makes more sense to build it in an entity with better funding and commercialization. There will be advanced 2-3 AIs and the most humane one doesn't necessarily win out. It is the one that has the most resources, is used and supported by most people and can do a lot. At this point it doesn't seem OpenAI can get that. It seems to be a lose-lose to stay at open AI - you lose the money and the potential to create something impactful and safe.

It is wrong to assume Microsoft cannot build a safe AI especially within a separate OpenAI-2, better than the for-profit in a non-profit structure.

You can build it using Netlify forms or cloud flare functions. But I rarely get comments that are not spam. Think if you need them. Email/twitter or GitHub issues might be good enough.

I really long a WebSQL core coming back to the web. Get us back a good SQL implementation in browsers. WASM SQL over IndexDB should not be the future.

You can also fire the CXOs and keep promoting from within at 1% the current CXO stock options with a 10 year vesting cliff and the company will survive - may actually do a lot better.

Good for them in the short run. In the longer version of this, the company gets lazy with their fat margins and adds a lot of administrative cruft. A leaner competitor comes in and the entire system becomes history. Capitalism in action.

I don’t think anyone would miss the haggling at the car dealerships.

Hugo’s documentation is a great reference and very well articulated. If you are looking for a tutorial and want to grow understanding, a book might be much better. I am the author of Hugo In Action (https://hugoinaction.com) and the objective of my book is to introduce the concepts slowly and with a running example for easily trying out.

I hosted a small snippet on heroku and am using https://github.com/atishay/tex2svg/ for my personal Hugo website. It is really cheap and easy to do latex to svg.

I think what it will eventually turn out to be is - Apple will require IAP/Storekit but will be forced to allow others. And you will see something like this - $10 - Pay by Apple, $8 Pay via Amazon/Google/Whoever big name enters this business, $7 pay by credit card directly. And you can chose if you need Apple's unsubscribe, want to trust Amazon for $2 discount, or want to get a further $1 discount by entering your credit card number and risking doing a chargeback in the future if the developer is really crappy.

Eventually Apple will get down to make the Amazon not turn profit out of iOS IAP and then you will be left with two choices.

They could also do this by exposing get subscriptions and cancel subscription APIs that other payment providers/apps can implement. Just like the share sheet, there can be a pay sheet.

This is amazing to see. We should use this for image optimization. When we compress channels, we should compress the blue channel to like 30% while keeping others at fairly large 80% and it might appear better than a 60% compressed image.

A more capitalist solution to the random ware problem could be ransomware insurance ideally mandated. You get hit and the company pays. But your premium rises the next time and till forever. You can get premium incentives to do audits and update software. Lower premiums show up in the balance sheet as profit and therefore there is immediate incentive to act on security issues. The insurance company has enough incentive to track the victim that some action might get taken.
