This would have been a great opportunity to regulate and prohibit massive data collection on mobile phones, by writing a law that requires the platforms (iOS,android) to architect differently and police this aggressively. Takes care of a lot of the TikTok worry and cleans up ecosystems from location tracking/selling weather apps as well.

I hope it's a success - but I am doubtful in the US payment landscape, as absurd incentives persisted so long:
- C2B payments (everything from cable to insurance) is dominated by credit card payments, as consumers chase rebates/miles/cash back [paid for by the people who don't pay their card in full every months]
- C2C payments, because it was virtually impossible for an average person to pay another bank account to bank account, a whole shadow banking system like Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, CashApp was created.
- B2B could always pay via ACH, doing it in real time for vendor payments has no advantage
- B2C payments, maybe - when you insurance company settle a claim same day (just kidding...).
So I hope that the US gets to a place where it is secure and convenient to pay others bank accounts with the balance in your bank account - but I doubt it.

It's going to be passed through and not be bourn by the surviving banks - that benefit from this 'bailout' of their customers....

maddening maybe, but because of the simple equation that the fraud losses from continuing to use swipe and issue cards without chip are high, but the margins on credit cards, due to the high rates are high enough to cover it. Carrying a balance on a credit card in Europe and South America is not very common (your account bank will grant a decently priced overdraft facility (not the crazy US fees there), rebates/points/miles are lower - so it just pays to be complacent here for the industry.

Enterprise sales - that is a hugely untapped market for password managers (and a huge gap for a lot of companies where people keep their various passwords that are left after massive SSO implementations when they try to SAML everything). CyberArk plays in that space, but Bitwarden with the thoughtful way they have built this product can give them a run for their money.

I think that's my point though, I can easily lose my phone, no harm done if one has the seed-values for the TOTPs and they are protected on the phone.
It's not so much asking for 'perfect' security - I agree, that doesn't exist.
But do HW security tokens create a probability of a hard lock-out that outweighs the security/convenience they provide.

I just 'aborted' my Yubikey purchase again as I started to think through how many I would need to buy and where to leave them to be sure I always have access, even if my house burns down and/or the hardware key breaks, one gets lost etc.
I think hardware 2FA is great in a corporate environment where there is an administrator that can enable/disable accounts and issue a new HW key if required.
For personal accounts though, I somehow feel uneasy about reliance on a small piece(s) of HW. Having a great password manager, lots of 2FA (with TOTP, where I own and back-up the secrets) and have all of that secured with a cloud backup with a super strong password that I don't know or have to write down, but can recreate if need be (e.g. an MD-5 hash of a specific segment of a public text).
Too much? Anyone else has the same concerns or am I missing something?
