For this I self-host vaultwarden (https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden), an implementation of the bitwarden server, on my raspberry pi at home (and back up the DB frequently). It works well enough for me, and doesn't have my stuff stored in a single company's cloud.

No. If I have 100 dollars, I might have gotten those from betting on old person fight ring in a care home - a net utility negative, or I might have gotten it from teaching disadvantaged teenagers PHP - a net utility positive.

If you have 100 UC, the only way those credits could have been minted is through 100 hours of 1 million simulated fruit flies having the time of their life.

There's lots of very exciting work going on around the fully mapped fruit fly connectome. For example, I'm a CTO of a stealth startup that aims to do for utilitarianism what carbon credits did for environmentalism. We are selling 'utility credits' which translates directly into us simulating trillions and trillions of fruit fly brains in a state of constant orgasmic bliss, which you can then buy to offset any actions your company has undertaken that damage global happiness or well-being. We've seen a lot of interest from some pretty large industry players.

Hi HN! I'm an amateur ceramicist and recently I've been collaborating, for lack of a better term, with LLMs like GPT on my pieces.

I've seen people use the 'commissioner' metaphor to describe the relationship between the prompter and generative image models, and wondered what it would feel like to reverse that relationship with an LLM and be commissioned by it, no matter how unlikely or unworkable its demands are.

I thought this is probably how the dwarves feel in Dwarf Fortress when they are taken by a 'strange mood' (https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Strange_mood) - a bolt of inspiration that they must complete or suffer negative consequences for it. So I made a quick-and-dirty tool to simulate that - it conjures up a deity from the Dwarf Fortress rules, asks GPT to adopt that persona, and output a ceramic demand. Sometimes the demands are very simple, sometimes difficult, sometimes absurd. I have my first divinely inspired demand ready to work on this weekend.

(For DF fans: I suppose this is more like the possessed mood than the fey - but I liked the name more.)

I'm guessing that Nix's 2% is nearly entirely driven by pull requests to the NixOS/nixpkgs repository, which has 4,053 open PRs and 190,167 closed ones at time of writing.
