Well, I'd start by making the production of deepfake porn that depicts real people illegal, doubly so if it depicts children or teens. Fictional depictions of underage people in sexual situations are already illegal in many jurisdictions.

I don't necessarily like the idea of punitive justice in general but that's the framework under which our society is currently operating so it's time to make lemonade I guess.

I think there used to be a ublock filter to hide ytshorts but I haven't used youtube in a while at this so I can't be sure I'm not imagining it.

This is obviously not helpful if you use a smartTV or the app, in which case I would recommend using one of the third party apps like newpipe or whatever the smarttv 3p app is called

I think in this instance the issue is that these tools shouldn't be available at all to anyone, adult or child. There are not many use-cases for generating porn from images of real people who aren't porn stars and most of them are not good.

because Meta's lobbying has been publicly identified. When the other companies are found to be spending millions of dollars to push these age verification laws, then they, too, will be harped on.

condemning the US != condoning the Iranian regime. This is not rocket appliance, you guys; saying it's wrong to murder cat burglars while they eat dinner with their kids is not an endorsement of burglary (especially when the murder is about collecting life insurance rather than stopping burglary)

Criticizing the US's actions against Iran is in no way condoning the things that the regime has done to it's own citizens. Especially since those actions are contributing directly to the Iranian people's hardship.

I'm not saying that you, personally, are being deliberately obtuse and unnuanced about this (and I'm not even saying that there aren't people who are sympathizing with the Iranian regime) but there are absolutely people being deliberately obtuse and unnuanced about it.

There is no universe where any pardon is abolished unless there is a massive political shakeup. The entrenched political class is terrified of endangering their power and privilege even if individual players are ready to do it.

Of course they are, because the tech industry is run by ethical midgets and psychopaths, who shouldn't be allowed to own a dog but are in charge of trillion-dollar corporations getting shadow contracts from the pentagon.

The more I learn about tech and the people that build it, the more I yearn for the era of caves and pointy sticks.

I don't get the impression that the OP was deliberately breaking the ToS. That doesn't mean they weren't violation but you usually inform someone when they are breaking the rules, even if you are taking punitive measures. It would be like arresting someone and never telling them what they are being arrested for. Not only is it scummy behavior to not tell them but it also doesn't effectively communicate to others that the thing won't be tolerated.

or at least an explanation. That would of course require a customer service apparatus designed to service customers rather than one designed to force them to become tangled in the abyssal morass.

I know this isn't really your main point but I don't think they've been trying to reduce complexity but rather increasing ease-of-use for the end-user*. Those things are often completely at odds with each other in software as I'm sure you know.

*well, that seems to have been their goal in the past; nowadays it just seems like they've been trying to funnel windows users to their other products and forcing copilot into everything.
