my cat personally wants to be between me and the monitor right in front of my face. so maybe designing a desk with like, a dip or hole or something where the cat can go into would be good

My take is that at some point, we will need ID verification online in general to prove you are human. Otherwise it's just chaos out here identity-wise and will get worse like you point out.

Ask HN: How to Transition from SWE to ML Engineer

I know this has been asked before, but the last question is about a year or two old, and the industry moves fast, so I think a new post might be warranted.

So I've been an SWE for about 9 years now, and I've wanted to try to switch careers to become an ML Engineer. So far, I've:

* learned basic theory behind general ML and some Neural Networks

* created a very basic Neural Network with only NumPy to apply my theory knowledge

* created a basic production-oriented ML pipeline that is meant as a showcase of MLOps ability (model retrain, promotion, and deployment. just as an FYI, the model itself sucks ass )

Now I'm wondering, what else should I add to my portfolio, or skill-set/experience, before I can seriously start applying for ML Engineering positions? I've been told that the key is depth plus breadth, to show that I can engineer production grade systems while also solving applied ML problems. But I want to know what else I should do, or maybe more specifics/details. Thank you!

I've had the same type of experience where I feel like the knowledge barrier for a lot of projects has been made much smaller than it used to be :D

btw, I have a couple of questions just out of curiosity: What tools do you use besides Claude? Do you have a local or preferred setup? and do you know of any communities where discussion about LLM/general AI tool use is the focus, amongst programmers/ML engineers? Been trying to be more informed as to what tools are out there and more up to date on this field that is progressing very quickly.
