Ok so then the "algorithm" must be made available to authorities (or even better, the public at large) and be approved or rejected based on a court or a law. Obviously an algorithm based on "engagement" or "narrative" should be rejected with prejudice every time.

RSS is great and I love that it's making a resurgence. I've sworn off big social media sites, including Reddit. Lemmy/Piefed feels more like "old internet" and I like it.

I think that: 1) Slate will still not be available for a while, and 2) Once you get everything you want on it, the price won't be that much better. But that's just my take.

Don't get me wrong, I look forward to Slate being available and think it's compelling, but just my cynical take.

Contacting my representatives is about as effective as making a silent wish. Whenever I've done it, I'll either get no response, or a boilerplate reply which basically says "I'm doing this, go fuck yourself". Then I'll be added to their spam list. The truth is that my reps don't represent me and they're going to do what they want regardless. After all, I'm not the one backing the truck of money up to their front door.

Lots of the users are bad, but the owner specifically tweaks and changes the algorithm to suit his own agenda and push his stance. That's what makes it an unserious platform.

I really wish an open-source developer of his caliber would also migrate to a serious microblogging service which isn't so openly hostile to truth and civility. Ending the sticky network effect of an evil service starts with its biggest, most prolific users migrating away.
