Seems a little drastic; couldn't they simply block domains and forbid vpns? Throwing the baby out with the bathwater seems counter-productive when a laptop is so essential for modern classes (far as I can see, I went to school in the pre-laptop era).

Sure, but lots of people are way more susceptible. Self-reflection is important here. The ability to question one's state and beliefs is the only tool to combat propaganda. Most people don't seem to do that; they parrot party lines and stay glued to their "news" networks.

Off topic, but what amuses me about the "Wrt" name is that it was originally alternate firmware for the Linksys WRT54G router from 25 years ago. The name has stuck for whatever reason; I guess since only geeks use it and know what it is.
