The worst part about the convoluted download process is that it seems someone have actively been making it more difficult since the first iteration, and I can't for the life of me understand why. Is it being done by someone who hates Broadcom? Or perhaps struggle with mental illness? Or is it due to a mix of micro management and extreme incompetence? I can't remember seeing something this bad since the horror shows people managed to create using stuff like Flash and Silverlight.

Didn't know anyone with a credit card back then, and had zero software shops around, so I mostly pirated stuff. But I did pay for Thor for my early BBS, mail and Usenet days on my Amiga, later replaced with a paid for license for Forte Agent on Windows.

I have fewer problems reading my C64 tapes and 5,25" floppies from 1984-1987 than reading my 1994-2001 CDRs and DVDRs.

Deploing at a large enough scale, perhaps where other optimization options aren't as good or even available, could also be a target.

Late question, but how do you deal with the audio lag when using the Elgato? Got the same dongle, and an old Nikon, but never got a handle on the lag.

I don't have these pedals [1] (yet), but considering how much I'm struggling with osteoarthritis at the ripe old age of 49, I do think they might offer some relief during my longer vim stints.

I remember running Mac software on my A4000-040. It was smoother than on real 68k macs, likely due to the co-processors the Amiga had. I didn't use the emulator much as I found most things just as good or better on the Amiga side of things, with an asteroid shooter, Maelstrom, as an exception - loved that game :)
