Ah, I ran into a gunicorn issue with timeouts and worker timeouts. Thanks for that.

A while back, I posted about Krestrel — a lightweight tool I built to help me stay in touch with friends more regularly (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41639339).
The feedback I got was helpful, people don't generally know how to reach out to friends or make friends, not just remembering to meet with friends. I made this tool in hopes to help people find ideas and events to engage their friends with.
For example:
If a friend is into dogs, the app might suggest: “There’s a local dog walk every Sunday.”
If you met someone at tennis, it might say: “Tennis lessons for beginners at the local tennis club”
”
The goal isn’t to automate your friends interactions, but to provide you with a starting point to talk to your friends. You'll still have to do the hard part and overcome any fears you might have asking people to hang out.
Everything runs privately — nothing is posted, no names are shared, and the suggestions come straight to you. I’ve been using it myself and it’s helped me find new activities.
I would love feedback.
Caveat - It often takes around 30 seconds to get a response. I know this isn't the best and if you have ideas on how to speed things up, I'd be happy to hear it!

I don’t know why but discord isn’t prevalent in my circle, maybe we’re just a bit older?

Like the title says, my friends live pretty far so we don't often meet up given work and family schedules. What are some ways you kept in touch with your friends?

Yep! In the dashboard page for non-logged in users, you can see recommendations in the details page: https://www.krestrel.com/examples/friend/5.
It'll vary between google, youtube, or general "hey, how are you" kind of statements depending on the person's interests.

As I’ve gotten older, busier, and moved away from my friends and family, it’s been harder to keep up with relationships and form new ones. I found that a lot of conversations naturally started by sharing something that was relevant to us - a meme, instagram clip, or article.
The idea is simple: you create a list of your friends, coworkers, or any contact and keep track of their interests, notes, and past interactions. The website uses your contacts' interests to generate tailored recommendations on how to reach out to them. These aren't meant to replace real interaction — just to give you that little nudge or idea to help you start a conversation over text or phone.
Some future things to come: I’m currently working on improving recommendations and reminders. I’m thinking of something along the lines of emails that’ll remind you to reach out to someone you haven’t in a while.
Note: you can try it out without logging in but you’ll need to create an account if you want to save any info.
