While we should never expect public transit to be self funding removing fares removes the ability for transit funds to scale with ridership, there is a reason that farebox ratios are correlated with ridership.

The only part of municipal/ regional bus network that is suitable for privatisation in a high labour cost country is contracting out operations. Ticketing, route planning andscheduling all should be under a central governmental authority. There is a reason that, outside of London, England has some of the worst bus services in the developed world

I feel like we need to move on from using the same test on models since as time goes on the information about these specific test is out there in the training data and while i am not saying that it's happened in this case there is nothing stopping model developers from adding extra data for theses tests directly in the training data to make their models seem better than they are

The one subtle difference I've noticed between Canadian and American English is on school grades. American say "first grade" where as Canada say "grade one".

He would still be unbelievably rich even if Meta went bankrupt. He is in the unique position to have majority control of one of the world's largest tech companies and can pretty much use it to do what ever he wants. I doubt he cares much about Facebook past it's ability to generate money at this point.

Unfortunately the Coventry VLRT is all about aesthetics over actually transit benefits. If the they were concerned about being useful transit the vehicle would have capacity higher than an articulated bus. Instead the main benefit of Trams/LRT over buses, capacity, is sacrificed leaving no real benefits. You can see the same thing with the Obama ere streetcars in the USA where most of them proved no real benefits over the buses the run alongside them but at least they retained the capacity even if it was never needed.

My favorite GNOME developer's hill to die on is their refusal to implement a system tray or work with the rest of the Linux desktop community to create an alternative to the system tray. Don't get me wrong there has been a abuse of the system tray but the refusal to acknowledge that there is a use case for persistent notifications or status indicators is ridiculous. there suggestion is that notifications are the solution is so inadequate. It's pretty telling that their arguments aren't sound when they have chosen to implement traditional system tray items such as a battery indicator and volume indicator as built in items on the task bar but they dismiss the idea that a chat app status indicator would be useful.

Even if you insist on going through the cities in the valley they chose a construction sequence that takes the longest time to show any process. If they fast tracked LA-Bakersfield they could have extended the Amtrak San Joaquin service to LA by now. Concentrat on the SF-Merced section next and then you can work on the Merced-Bakersfield piece meal.

I think it comes down to the fact that LLMs are powerful tools but just like a really good saw can be extremely helpful to a talented carpenter to an untrained person it useless unless they actually learn to do the job

Other countries are not going to let the USA determine domestic tax policies.

If they did remove VAT from items imported from the United States it would lead to the absurd situation where a US merchant could import an item from Germany without VAT and then sell it to consumers in Germany without VAT undercutting German retailers and denying the German government their consumption tax revenue

VAT is not a tarrif or trade tax it is simply appling a consumption tax to all goods foreign and domestic.
