Ask HN: Advice for considering proposals for outsourced software development

I have been asked to review a set of 10 software proposals to create a product for a founder. This is my first time doing such a task, what questions should I be asking of the proposals in order to identify the better ones out of the bunch?

Obviously I can differentiate based on the size of the teams offered and the time frames they propose, some also clearly have more consideration for the UX design of the product than others. Any advice or experiences offered would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As someone making £27k in the UK your salary is also crazy to me. The kind of numbers that get thrown around really have no meaning to me.

I get the feeling confluence is as good as the effort you put in. For the love of God tag your pages or don't complain when nobody knows they exist.

An interesting thing I remember reading about Japan was that post war it rapidly industrialised with massive success in a very short amount of time. Something which brought great pain and poor conditions to many countries that tried to do the same.

As an anecdotal example the cost of a pint of beer in London can be 3 to 4 times as expensive as what I'm used to in the South West. For other basic necessities I agree with you however.

While it doesn't benefit you in the long term and you run risk of being blames as others have said. Try contacting the government considering they seem to utilize their services. I think they're much more likely to take it seriously.

Ever since I got a job I haven't had time for it. It really is a full time job to play, I noticed a lot of people who would play from work with cushy IT jobs.

I cut down to a single coffee in the morning followed by decaff for the rest of the day. I also found a lot of success with herbal/fruit teas. For me it's just about having a hot drink at this point.

Just an idea. How about creating a social media "Brand" presence? Show off the fashion with it being unavailable. Get feedback, gauge who your audience is and put it in peoples minds. You can see how viable it is and gather feedback before committing to anything too big. Maybe offer social media models samples in exchange for advertising?

But you would let the product owner do whatever he likes with the code. Does the Government serve the people or should the people serve the nation?
