They’ve historically had eye watering regular maintenance bills, even outside of them generally having a reputation for being temperamental. Maybe Ferrari will continue pioneering in their own way and make an unreliable and expensive to own EV

The price for that storage system will be far more dominated by drive prices than by the cost of the NAS box itself. Drive prices have approximately doubled in my area vs. 2 years ago.
This is also generally a selfish attitude where you personally benefit while structures that used to benefit society at large are eroded.

Openly admitting he’ll be wasting taxpayer time and money on frivolous proposals because he didn’t get his way through the democratic process. Thankfully the democratic process can go against him even further and remove him from office at their next opportunity and he can find somewhere else to throw a tantrum.

The problem with auto compaction is that you aren’t given the opportunity to review its compacted understanding to confirm that it’s correct or doesn’t contain large omissions. I try to avoid letting it compact whenever possible and stick to plans that I review because it seems to get extremely dumb after an auto compaction.

To be clear, the vulnerability existed in Linux, not in Xint Code. It existed whether this group disclosed it or not. Knowledge of it and exploits may have already been bought and sold among various groups with various motives including crime, terrorism, or cyberwarfare who likely made good money off it if this happened.
In that world, the vulnerability has more value to those who seek to exploit it for their own motives, regardless of the consequences. They hope that no one else stumbles on it and fixes it, preventing them from continuing to use it to do bad things.
In the world where it is disclosed, there is more value in fixing the vulnerability as the maintainer’s reputation is at risk (and potentially monetary loss or legal liability if they are shown to be negligent).

Years ago I went to WWDC, to the sessions where you could talk to specialists from their different libraries. I talked to someone high up in maps and location services, reporting an issue we were consistently seeing in geolocation at a particular spot in the world. They effectively told me they didn’t believe me and that it works fine for them.

I’m not really surprised. The US (and their allies) has made a concerted effort over a number of decades to turn them into to the third world. The current sitting US president has threatened to blast them into “oblivion” and “back to the Stone Ages, where they belong”. A lot of imagery of middle eastern countries seen in the west is of the places they’ve collectively destroyed.
