A bit of an off-topic, as age checks are not solution to this, it's just the usual "think of the children" narrative.

I'm missing the WHY this wasn't communicated.

Isn't it obvious you need to let your users know there is a new constraint they don't expect?

Seems incredibly short-sighted to me.. The trust you build for years gets destroyed in seconds..

Agreed, I once read someone put it like this: Saying you have nothing to hide, so you don't care about privacy is like saying you have nothing to say, so you don't care about freedom of speech. In both cases the ramifications are far reaching.
