What Canada is doing is turning to trade with other countries. It is the main solution we have to this issue. It is a long game, but necessary.

Ganging up on the US isn't likely to work well.

Unfortunately, Canada (where I live) will feel way more pain from this than the US. I am not sure Trump will have respect for this at all, but the alternative was to put in a permanent trade deal that significant disadvantaged Canada.

Why not force them to release their records? Some legislation would help. If they are scanning the world's books, the results should be open.

There is currently not a SINGLE American citizen under indictment, investigation, or facing an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC). The one case tied to US soldiers in Afghanistan was ended.

So why is the US doing this with such intensity right now?

( My question was rhetorical, you can see in the initial ICC sanctions from the Whitehouse it was all about Israel + Netanyahu: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/impo... )

I find that auto wrecks my code base and makes stupid mistakes. I find for routine tasks I need at least sonnet and then it is reliable.

I have been a long time Cursor user but it is really expensive even if it is convenient to switch models. I recently switched to just Max on Claude and Max on Codex. That is cheaper than Cursor if you use it a lot.

Github data is accessible by all (if open source), but they should be partition-able by individual repository (and their related forks.). Thus while there is more shared state across users, it isn't fully shared state.

And they have been working on this semi-shared state design for over 10 years now.

I am pretty sure OpenAI and Claude actually have a higher hardware cost per request that Microsoft. Github is actually most just a standard REST API app, although with some caching and git specific operations in the background. It is not as hardware intensive as GPU-based inference per quest with huge contexts and low latency.

Also Github's feature offering has been incredibly stable for the last 6 years. There isn't an excuse for it to be unstable like this.

So has Github's owner Microsoft. It's build out is on par with OpenAI and Anthropic.

Microsoft is.

The issue is that the software stack is not stable. That is clearly the issue here.

It isn't a hardware build out issue. It is related to the architecture of Github.

Sure, but how is OpenAI, and Claude handling the increased usage? They are handling it a lot better than Github. Just because you have fast growth does not mean you can not handle it.

Instead you have to realize that you are entering into a high growth phase and design around that.

It has been clear that we are in a high growth phase for around a year now and Github still hasn't adapted to that properly.

At some point you have to admit that Github ready for the moment.

Yeah, Codeberg banning AI generated code is weird. AI generated code is the future. It is like during the days of assembly banning high level languages.

Is this rage bait? Isn't Google, Amazon, and all the other services in the world similarly impacted by LLM's? Isn't Claude, OpenAI, etc.? Why can they handle the load but not Github?

I do not need it to be meaningfully different than Github, it sounds like that introduces additional complexity. I just want Github that works.

What is the best Github alternative that has something like Github Actions? What is the easiest to switch to? I do not want to switch but it is having too much of an impact on me.

It is time to give up on Github. This is just too much.

It is not working at all, I can not load any repo pages.

Github.com's promise is that it can be the central broker of open source code because it is reliable.

That promise hasn't been kept recently.

That said, Github is hard to displace and it is similar to the era of the Twitter Fail Whales. It was a sign of growth that couldn't be properly managed but there was not viable alternative.
