> - AOSP (the open source counterpart of Android) is now unusable. It doesn't ship with most essential apps, including a Phone app. In previous versions of Android, all of these were a part of AOSP.
This particular example is a bit misleading as those apps are still available; they're just unbundled from the system image: https://source.android.com/docs/automotive/unbundled_apps/re...

This is not correct. The main infotainment system is not considered safety critical. There are some functions such as rear view camera that are but often this is handled by a real time os that overlays the video on top of the infotainment output. The infotainment system crashing will not take down your steering or braking.

One method I've known to work for people is to buy an Oculus. You need a Facebook account for it and Oculus tech support can reactivate your Facebook account. After that return the Oculus. This is the post where I first heard of this [1] and it worked for my brother-in-law. YMMV.
--
[1] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29624826

Probably any lens and any modern camera can achieve this quality and look. The soft background is achieved by using a lower f-stop. In this example the background isn't really too blurry though so you shouldn't need anything special.
You'll need to spend more time on lighting than anything else to reproduce the overall feel.

You can get motorized dampers that you install where the branches come off the main trunk.
My understanding is it's not great to shut down vents all the way since it increases the static pressure in the branch and the air is just going to try to find ways out. You also have to be careful with closing down too many registers as it can cause too much pressure on the furnace. Some furnaces will shut down in this case.

He touches on that in the paragraph
> I'm not saying that writing is the best way to explore all ideas. If you have ideas about architecture, presumably the best way to explore them is to build actual buildings. What I'm saying is that however much you learn from exploring ideas in other ways, you'll still learn new things from writing about them.
