just curious if anyone knows or has a link to studies regarding comments in codebases and agentic dev. I recently went through and chopped 50%+ of the comments the model had left on initial build and I'm wondering if this improves parsing (obviously it will improve token usage) and reasoning -- hopefully not the inverse? anyone has looked into this?

yeah, surely the reason why adult friendships have declined since before technology is that they had AI before and now they... wait.
> Curious how people here have seen adult friendships actually form after the first meeting.
you know, by... asking to hang out.
this is the craziest "using a computer to `solve` something that has nothing to do with computers" problem I've seen on here in a minute.

claude - org pays for it.
org used to pay for both, and i preferred codex back then (~3mo ago).
i find claude to be significantly lazier or require significantly more guidance. it does, however, have better design and ui/ux intuition.

i don't even try. the good stuff will be absorbed by the corps and harness providers (claude code, etc). the less useful stuff will fall away naturally. current harnesses (claude code) suit my needs very well.
i haven't yet seen tooling that makes me think, "wow, this is the missing link, i need this" -- not since claude code started working very well with sub-agents.

so, just had a guy ousted today in part due to my own judgment, as well as my boss'.
this guy passed the interview rounds cleanly with decent answers -- I was in one, and I suspected something was "off" about him, but was willing to go ahead.
after a couple months it becomes apparent this person is not really as inquisitive or critical as I'd like. they ask no questions, need no clarification, are silent in meetings.
once it comes time to look at PRs, it's incredibly apparent it's LLM slop. not even GOOD slop -- lots of things outright broken, non-conforming frontend design, messy and redundant code. you can imagine.
the person also cannot seemingly answer questions in sync. everything gets delayed, seemingly processed through the mouthpiece of AI. watching them live code is a mess. they seemingly have no idea what to do, until the AI instructs them. sometimes I even see them typing my questions in. (by the way, this was a SENIOR dev role.)
so, needless to say, the person is gone now after much hand-wringing. still a very bizarre experience, especially at my fairly tight-knit company composed of just two small dev teams.
now I'm wondering what we can do to prevent this from happening -- are in-person interviews the only way forward? thoughts?
