Well aware of Quantified Scientist and it’s actually what I have pointed many Oura, Woop, etc users to in the past.

But as you say the always-on ECG of a strap like Polar H10 always going to provide a superior result.

My experience is that while they are all priced based on demand, Waymo is often much cheaper during periods of low demand. I have benefitted from a few 50% off rides in the past month, so I was able to pay $5.50-$6.00 for rides that would be $20-30 across all the providers during high demand and for which Uber was quoting $13-18 at the time of those rides.

I’ll add that if you care about working out with a watch to track heart rate, the Apple Watch is pretty dismal. I moved to pairing mine with a Polar H10 strap so that I could get much faster feedback on heart rate recovery post sprint. In addition to using an optical sensor, the Apple Watch may also be doing something to smooth out the signal. I just know that the Polar seems much more responsive and matches how I am feeling.

Because it's ultimately not very useful. Sleep tracking - I've become convinced this is actually a bad idea, and since I stopped I stress less about sleep and ultimately sleep better. Step tracking? Phone does that adequately.

I do wear it for workouts, but once it's closer to end of life will replace it with something dedicated for workouts like a Garmin that holds a charge for 14+ days.

I loved my Apple Watch at first but due to exactly these sort of distractions no longer wear it and have more recently turned off most of the notifications on my phone. I am sick of my attention being stolen away by everything around me.

Well, there was $300M+ in VC money and after burning through some percentage of it those investors wanted an exit. I don’t think this is so much about founders taking a deal as it is investors demanding that exit.

Have both. Also had floaters since at least teen years. Neither bother me substantially although I think I have lost most of 8 kHz volume in my left ear and have tinnitus that I think matches that frequency.

You know what does bother me?

The scintillating scotoma as well as retinal migraine symptoms, the former starting in middle school and latter in my 20s. Fortunately neither is frequent now but damn I used to break into a cold sweat with either and to this day am a bit reluctant to drive because of both.

I don’t know where you’re drawing your conclusions from but they literally have messages from the OpenAI exec laughing at how he can still access data at Apple and talking about copying it, as well as messages encouraging candidates from Apple to bring unreleased prototype hardware to demonstrate during interviews.

This is a population-based cohort study in Seoul, South Korea comparing incidence of various mental health issues at one point in time between vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

They point out some limitations in their study:

Second, previous studies have suggested the impact of poverty rates on mental disorders but there are differences in the baseline characteristics between the two groups in this study [45, 46].

And summarize their conclusion as such:

It increased the risks of depression, anxiety, dissociative, stress-related, and somatoform disorders, and sleep disorders while reducing the incidence and risk of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Agree that SwiftUI was just jumping on a bandwagon and would say that the design of SwiftUI clearly strains the poor language design choices in Swift.

There were a lot of people actively complaining about ObjC in the lead-up to the unveiling of Swift. In fact I recall one prominent blogger in the iOS community begging Apple just a few months earlier to consider replacing it.

Unfortunately although Swift seemed promising at first, by the time Swift 3 rolled around a lot of people were actively frustrated and moved on from iOS development. Having actual experienced hands guiding that ship could have led to something great instead of the mess that is there today.
