It might not be needed though if you have a battery generator and enough solar panels.

But if you have a BBQ with propane and the sun didn't shine for many many days that should be sufficient.

We consume 101 million barrels of oil per day. The amount of oil humans consume per day has doubled since 1980. Is this the way we finally wake up to the urgency of addressing the climate crisis caused by burning fossil fuels?

These promos should be based on when more renewable energy is available for inference not when less people are likely to be using the AI. We need to adjust usage to when supply is more renewable for both training and inference in order to better protect our grid and the planet.

Beyond its role in climate change, elevated concentrations of CO₂ pose a direct physiological threat to human health, ranging from inflammation to respiratory stress. The Trump presidency is trying to protect coal and oil for some reason. Money, lobbying, bribery anyone?

We need to look past the political noise and focus on the immediate data: CO₂ is a pollutant that harms human physiology. Regardless of where you stand on climate policy, we should all agree that breathing toxic air is unacceptable. We need to prioritize respiratory health and cognitive safety above partisan loyalty

The best part of learning a language is being able to build connections with real people. It's about being vulnerable — learning to take chance — to embrace being uncomfortable. Somehow the uncertainty and vulnerability with other people ends up being one of the most enjoyable parts of learning a language. Taking that chance and getting to know what it's like to communicate with another person across the unknown.

What makes learning a language so wonderful is being, "Lost in Translation."

I understand people not wanting to follow the news lately and the inclination in just tuning it out. But some things you can't tune out because by tuning it out the conditions of the world can deteriorate from our complacency.

How sad is it to see the US position as a leader building alliances completely fall apart under the current administration? Pretty heartbreaking. The news today about sums up the disappointment.

"Prime Minister Mark Carney, speaking to reporters in Beijing on Friday after making a preliminary deal with China on a range of issues, said Canada’s relationship with the U.S. is 'more multi-faceted' and much deeper than Canada's relationship with China — but noted that ties with China have become more predictable in recent months."

The answer is actually less technology. More in person community is the solution.

How do you get people to talk to each other again? It has to come through forming community groups that can meet and enjoy life together in the real world. It also can come from meet with a shared purpose to advance common causes that make the community and the world slightly better.

But what surprises me most in this entire debate is how little we talk about the biological cost of CO₂ itself. We focus so much on the globalized damage to the climate that we’ve overlooked the direct, physiological tax that combustion is levying on our bodies. For some reason conservative governments want us to continue to trade our atmospheric oxygen for carbon dioxide through the burning fossil fuels. I wrote more about this topic on substack:
